August 2018 Volume 90, Number 8 Junior Summer Sailing Well, we had a good time at EncinalYacht Club in Alameda. The conditions were flat water with a building breeze from 7-10 on Saturday to 8-12 with a few gusts of 15. Some very tight racing in both fleets, Kyra/Eva raced in the C420 class and placed 2 nd . On one leg they were 3min in front of everyone, and were over early in another and still got a bullet. Nice job girls! In the FJ fleet, it was a three way battle.. All the teams had bullets, several lead changes, on Race1I watch both Kyle and Michael port tack the fleet and the almost gave me a heart attack… The boys heard one of the coach boats say, “I didn’t know SCYC had good sailors”… I had several comments from other directors and coaches that they are glad to see is at the regatta’s mixing it up. Part 3 of 3: WRITTEN 9/22/2006 and RE-EDITED 5/21/2018

(We left off last time with the delivery crew of the sail-ing vessel Sally being treated to a dinner ashore at The Old Port Inn on the end of the wharf in Port San Luis. It was a great respite to be off the boat for a few hours, eating a meal that was not trying to jump off the table.)

(This story would not be complete if I didn’t mention that the chemistry between Jim, Steve, Roger, Yarrow, John, Jim S., and me really worked well. We managed to laugh through the tough times and find humor in just about anything, right down to plugging the scupper with a lime. Our faces actually hurt from all the laughter and merriment we shared during those days while sailing north together. We all agreed that we had sprained our “smile muscles” along the way. These guys are all great sailors and to this day 25 years later (now 37 years in 2018), I would sail any-where with them.)
