The message
Years 8 & 9 - Subject SelectionTowards Senior Learning Pathways
From Carla Sampaio- Guidance Officer
We want our students to graduate Year 12 as resilient and confident young people with a portable resource for their future and a range of opportunities available to them.
Making The Right Choice……This is your opportunity to begin to study subjects that align with your strengths and interests.
Subjects that you think will be right for you!
Subject changes in 9 are possible although may be difficult due to high student numbers in classes or no availability of the desired subject on the right line.
Some Considerations……
Do I choose a subject based on
the teacher I had in year 8?
Do I choose a subject
because my friends are taking it?
Choose subjects that
you enjoy and are good at.
What is an Anchor? An anchor subject is any subject that you do not enjoy and have low aptitude for. You are likely not going to achieve as well in an anchor subject as opposed to one that you enjoy.
Making Career Decisions…..Any idea you have about your career at your age is a hypothesis you will go on to test…
A career decision at any age is a hypothesis untilyou begin to work in that field.
Choose Subjects that…..
You enjoy!You believe
you will achieve well in
Are meaningful for
you
Will challenge you!
There are many pathways to success and a meaningful career after school
There are many subjects on offer at ISHS that will prepare students for senior school and beyond
The Junior Secondary phase is a perfect time to explore opportunities, learn more about yourself and develop a positive work ethic
In Summary
Any Questions? Please book an appointment to speak to myself or one of the other members of the guidance team.
