GENERAL PRINCIPLES OF BEHAVIOUR
1. We believe in giving our best effort in all things, at all times and fulfilling our commitments.
2. We believe in trying to be a positive influence in what we do, and encouraging others to do the same.
3. We believe in being courteous, considerate and respectful to others.
4. We believe in taking pride in ourselves, in our ideals and our environment.
SCHOOL RULES
1. Full school uniform should be worn at all times; this includes games kit as stipulated. Exceptions are made in the summer when specific rules are announced.
2. Hair should be clean, neat and tidy, without artificial colouring or extremes of style. Boys’ hair should not come below the collar or fall across the eyes. Girls’ hair should be clipped or tied back whenever school uniform is worn.
3. No jewellery may be worn, with the exception of one pair of gold sleepers or stud earrings (girls).
4. School shoes should be black with a sensible heel.5. Pupils must not buy or sell goods, or borrow without
permission. 6. Pupils should respect all Fire and Health and Safety
precautions and be familiar with the routines designed to promote their own safety.
CODE OF CONDUCT
1. Be thoughtful towards each other, especially towards those younger than you.
2. Show politeness and warmth towards all adults, especially parents and visitors.
3. Make sure that your behaviour as a member of your school is something which you can be proud.
22
The safety and well-being of all our pupils at Rossall School is our highest priority. Our business is to know everyone as an individual and to provide a secure and caring environment, so that every pupil can learn in safety. We expect respect, good manners and fair play to be shown by everyone so that every pupil can develop his/her full potential and feel positive about him/herself as an individual. All pupils should care for and support each other.
Rossall prides itself on its culture of open and effective communication between staff and pupils.
Our aims are to:a) create an environment in our School which is safe and secure for all pupilsb) encourage our pupils to establish satisfying relationships with their families, with peers and with other adultsc) encourage children to develop a sense of autonomy and independenced) work with parents to build their understanding of and commitment to the welfare of all pupils.
Who to turn to:All pupils know that there are adults to whom they can turn to if they are worried, including Houseparents, the Designated Senior Lead (Mr Pryor and Mrs Lee), the Head, Deputy Head, Senior Teachers, Chaplain and the Medical Staff.
All pupils have access to a telephone helpline, enabling them to call for support in private.
Every child is given a care card which contains guidance on where to turn for advice, including confidential help lines and web addresses for external specialists.
Our notice boards around school, the Medical Centre and all Houses display advice on where pupils can seek help, e.g. Child Line and External Listener.
Forms of Child Abuse:Child abuse can be of a sexual, emotional or physical nature, it can also be the result of neglect.
Concerns or suspicions may arise through either direct allegation, direct observation or by changes in attitude or behaviour. All members of the teaching and support staff receive Safeguarding training on an annual basis.

LAST WORD
Last word…. UniformFrom the very early days, Rossallians were expected to wear a uniform during their time at school. It is interesting to see how the style and expectation of the school has changed over the last century.
The following points have been extracted from the 1915 version of ‘Rossall School Rules and Regulations’.
DRESS1. All coats, jackets, and waistcoats must be black or plain dark blue.
Ties and boots must be black. No knickerbockers may be worn.2. No hats or caps are allowed but straw hats with house ribbons and
house caps, and any such special caps as have the Head Master’s sanction.
3. No boy should go to early Chapel, or go about afterwards, with boots that have not been cleaned.
4. All boys must have at least two pairs of white flannel trousers and two white flannel shirts for cricket, two pairs of “shorts”, and two football jerseys (one white and one dark blue) for football.
5. Every boy must have a special pair of boots of brown leather, to be kept entirely for wear at football.
6. All boys are expected to salute the Head Master whenever they meet him, and to salute the other Masters and the Bursar and doctor outside the school premises (i.e., outside the entrance lodges and the green cop).
In September 2015, the School is introducing a new style uniform across the ages for both the boys and girls, based on the traditional colours.
