some of the solos & all the chorus entries. Kelsey Lohman will be here

most of our students. The schedule was sent home with the students on
Tuesday. It is also posted on my web page. Just click on Kelsey or Marge’s
name to find your child’s scheduled practice. Students need to be here 15
minutes prior to their scheduled time in order to get warmed up before
playing with the accompanist.

work until 4:15 if someone else can work from 4:15 to 5:30.
Please encourage nightly practice from your child. It will only
help them enjoy the accompanist rehearsals & solo contest day.
7th Grade ELA: We are starting to pick up momentum with To Kill a
Mockingbird. This is a challenging book to undertake, and I am so proud of how
this class has taken such a proactive approach to utilizing resources available to help
them understand the content and engage with the text on a deeper level. There are
several resources that we use in class that students are able to access at home as well
for additional support. Some of which include: https://www.shmoop.com/to-kill-a-
mockingbird/ and https://depreyenglishtkm.weebly.com/. We will also continue
developing our argumentative writing. Next week, we will be undertaking a group
writing project to showcase our ability to write arguments to support claims with
clear reasons and relevant evidence (W 7.1).
8th Grade ELA: Next week, we will continue our poetry unit and students will get
to try their hand at creating some of their own poetry paying particular attention to
developing a consistent theme (RL 8.2). We will also continue to develop our
argumentative writing. Students will continue to work collaboratively to produce a
rough draft of an argumentative piece on a topic of their choice. Next week, in
particular, students will receive guidance and support to strengthen their writing by
revising, editing, rewriting, or possibly trying a new approach to focus on producing
a final copy that clearly addresses the topic and audience (W8.5).
**It’s almost mid-quarter! Is your student on the path to getting their AR
goal? It is very important that they stay motivated and read every day. Even 15
minutes can significantly impact their ability.**

a short session on five different skills and take an overall grade on Fri-

narrative writing. Bring your creativity with you next week! As for liter-

tribute to a text. This includes illustrations, graphs, charts, and videos.
