First aid

Pre-race medical servicesFriday, 7 September 2012The race doctor can be reached via the Help Desk at the Marathon Expo.

Saturday, 8 and Sunday, 9 September 2012A doctor will be available for consultation at the Marathon Expo from 08.00 to 09.00 h (see signs).

During the raceDoctors will be on duty on every section of the course during the race. Contact the nearest first-aid post for minor health problems or medical problems requiring a doctor’s advice. First-aid posts will be spaced at approx. 5-km intervals on the first relatively level section to Lauterbrun-nen. On the mountain section, medical care points (first aid, massage, physiotherapy) will be spaced at approximately 2-km intervals. A monitoring service will be in operation at the finish.

EmergenciesIn an emergency, always initially call the event’s Internal Emergency Tel. No. 033 828 76 65. If there is no connection, call the Emergency Centre, Tel. No. 144. Many volunteers equipped with walkie-talkies are also on duty along the course and can raise the alarm in an emergency. To allow better location in an emergency, safety markers giving exact location details and coordinates will be positioned at 250 m intervals between the 26 to 39 km flags and every 500 m from 39 km to the finish. The organizing committee asks all runners and spectators to note these location aids in the event of an emergency.

Doctors on duty along the sections are authorized to retire a competitor from the race on medical grounds. Should a competitor continue the race against a doctor’s orders, or run behind the official sweeper’s vehicle, he/she does so without evaluation or acceptance of any kind and with the disapproval of the organizing committee. Such behaviour puts the competitor outside the scope of the event and thus also outside the area for which the organizing committee bears responsibility and is therefore liable, i.e. the proper holding of the event and the customary care of athletes.

The race doctor stresses that participating in the Jungfrau Marathon with a health disorder can be dangerous. We ask runners who have recently suffered an acute illness (infection, heart, circulatory or lung disorders or operations) to abandon any thought of entering the race. During race preparations you should also look out for any warning signs of heart and circulatory problems, such as chest pains, breathing difficulties and reduced ability. Contact your own doctor without delay should any of these problems occur.

Spectator PassSpectator Passes will be on sale on Saturday and Sunday as a 1-day ticket on the Interlaken Ost – Kleine Scheidegg section, valid via Lauterbrunnen or Grindelwald.

Price: CHF 35.– for children (age 6 – 15), holders of a Swiss Card, Half-fare Card and Bernese Oberland Regional Pass. CHF 55.– for adults. Junior and Grandchild Card valid

Spectator passes will be on sale on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Jungfrau Railways stand in the Marathon Expo and at all stations of Jungfrau Railways.

Information for GA Travelcard holders:The GA Travelcard is valid to Grindelwald and Wengen, from where it is valid as a Half-fare Card.
