New at the ASYMCA!- Military Advisory Committee

    Thank you OMBAC

The Military Family Advisory Committee is a new addition to the ASYMCA but has already become an active and inflential group. The committee is made up of 10 volunteer members who act as a liaison between the military commnity and the organization. Their mission is to identify needs, create solutions, and strengthen existing resources whencompassing the true spirit of community with respect, support and unity. One way the group is living this missiois through their volunteer efforts at the monthly Neighborhood Exchange Program. They recently facilitated an

extensive survey to help identify how the ASYMCA can best use its strengths to address the communitys needs. Ware excited about this new group and look forward to integrating their ideas into new and existing programs!

From the Desk of Executive Director Paul Steffens:

Talk about a variety of events and opportunities for military families to step out and en- joy this wonderful community. When you see pictures of these terrific events, pleaseremember that military families participate free of charge and we could not put onthese events without the generous financial contributions of San Diego businesses andindividuals. We could also not present as many programs without the solid support ofhundreds of volunteers, both military and from the community. What a great partner-ship!

*********************************************************************As you look at the pictures from the annual NICU reunion, just think about some of the

participants who were, at one time, patients in the NICU when this program started 27 years ago. What a wonderful opportunity for former patients to unite and bond withother former patients and medical staff of the NICU. My personal hats off and welldone to the ASYMCA Naval Medical Center Staff and all the volunteers who work so hardeach year to make this a very special event. Bravo Zulu!

*********************************************************************Our celebration of the first anniversary of our Neighborhood Exchange program wasvery special. Thanks to a great partnership with the San Diego Food Bank we are ableto offer both perishable and non-perishable food items to military families. We do thisto recognize the hardships they endure during deployments and to thank them for what

they do for this great country. I want to especially thank the Navy Region Southwestrock and roll band, the Destroyers for providing the entertainment by playing somesolid musicyou are the best!

*********************************************************************I must also express my personal and sincere appreciation to VADM Tom Kilcline and DebKilcline for their strong support for the ASYMCA and military families. We wish you fairwinds and following seas as you enter a new chapter of life. You are special people. Iwould like to also welcome VADM and Mrs. Allen Myers as VADM Myers assumes com-mand of Naval Air Forces. We stand ready to support Naval Air Forces and their fami-

    lies.
