VBS JULY 17th—21st

UMW REDBIRD MISSION

VBS starts on July 17th through the 21st from 6 – 8 p.m. with dinner offered at 5:15 p.m. this year and is open to children ages 3 to fifth grade. We will need a lot volunteers to help with VBS. If you are interested in helping out, please see any of the Children’s Council members, Dawn Shoemaker, or fill out the volunteer form. Sign-up sheets are in the Gathering area. Please fill one out and re-turn it to the church office.

As an outreach mission project, the United Methodist Women will be collecting good used clothes, school sup-plies, medical supplies such as aspirin, Tylenol, Tums and Band-Aids, paper products and Bibles to send to Red Bird Mission in August. You can help by donating your children’s outgrown clothing. Adult clothing is needed as well. Also, for those garage sale enthusiasts, maybe you can pick up one or two bargain items to donate. More details will be com-ing this summer but keep this need in mind as you clean out your closets. Red Bird Mission and Clinic have been providing ministries in the Appalachian Mountain region since 1921. Today the need is critical in this neglected, rural, distressed area. Support for Red Bird Mission comes from churches and individuals. In recent years, support for Red Bird Mission has declined and they are having difficulty with continuing the ministries they pro-vide. This collection drive will help them to continue with their vital ministry in this greatly impoverished area of the United States. Your donations are greatly appreciated. Again, watch for details on collection dates and sites. Collection will start in August. For questions, please see one of the UMW executive committee members. Also, if anyone might be interested in transporting the collected items to Red Bird Mission in southeastern Kentucky in August or September, please contact Susan Steinman for infor-mation. The cost of gas and mileage will be reimbursed.

Garden Party V A Day Apart for Women Saturday, June 18, 2011 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Fellowship Hall Cost $10, includes lunch & morning snacks It is almost time again for the annual UMW Garden Party. This year’s event will feature certified life coach, au-thor and seminar leader, Dr. Robin Chaddock. Robin has been interviewed on national radio and television, includ-ing Trinity Broadcasting and Focus on the Family. Robin holds degrees in psychology, theology and organizational management. Bring a friend or two and join women from all over northeast Indiana for a day of Christian fellow-ship. Information brochures/registration forms are located in the gathering area.

UMW SUNDAY WOMEN CHOIR

Sunday, June 19th is United Methodist Women’s Sunday.

We are in need of ladies to sing in the ladies’ choir during

1st service.

A practice will be held on Wednesday, June 8th and June

15th at 6:30 p.m.

We would appreciate any lady who can participate and

“make a joyful noise unto the Lord”

to contact Susan Steinman or Kathy McClain.

It would be wonderful to have a large group of ladies in-

volved on UMW Sunday.

Thank you for your participation.

STRAWBERRY FEST— JUNE 8th

THE DUECKER LODGE

DEDICATION JUNE 4th

The mission commission will be sponsoring the annual Straw-

berry Fest on June 8 from 4:00 to 6:30 pm. The menu will in-

clude chicken or sloppy joe sandwiches, potato salad, chips,

celery and carrots, cold drinks or coffee and fresh strawberry

pie or strawberries on ice cream. All proceeds from this

year’s event will go to “Local Mission Projects”. We are

suggesting a $ 6.00 donation for each meal with children un-

der six eating free. Larger donations would also be greatly

appreciated. We hope you can dine in with us, but if not, carry

-out will be available. Put this event on your calendar and we

hear it’s going to be a good weather evening.

The mission commission is planning to send a group from First Church to attend the dedication of the Duecker Lodge set for June 4, at 10:00 a.m. at the Epworth Forest Conference Center. This new lodge will be open for touring on that day. Because of our church’s pledge to this project, we feel the Auburn Church should be well repre-sented at this event. Several of us are planning to car pool to this dedication. We will meet at the church and leave for Epworth promptly at 8:30 a.m. the morning of June 4. Anyone interested in attending this event via this car pool should contact Bob Oswalt at 925-1649 or be at the church no later than 8:20 a.m. on Saturday, June 4th. Mission Committee

GLOW MEALS I wish to express a sincere Thank You to all of the volun-teers who have helped with the Glow Meals the past nine months. This won-derful ministry could not have been successful without your support. Dawn Shoemaker will continue the meals throughout the summer with Cindy Parrott tak-ing over the coordination in the Fall. Please contact them if you wish to volunteer to help keep this ministry alive. Many are called by the Holy Spirit and have received the Gift of Service/Helps. What a wonderful opportunity to use this gift to spread the LOVE of our God and Savior. With the love of our Lord, Kathy Hardy

First United Methodist School of Early Learning

Kelly Oswalt, Executive Director 1203 E. 7th Street s Auburn, IN 46706

260-925-2570 s [email protected]

Though it’s summertime, the School of Early Learning still has lots of things going on! With Summer Fun Camps happening in

June, July and August, we are fortunate to still have kids in the building.

For children who turn 3, 4 or 5 by July 1, as well as students who have just completed Kindergarten, the School of Early Learning

is offering Summer Fun Camps. Campers have 3 camps to choose from: June 14-16 (Preschool Picassos); July 12-14 (Creative

Cookers) and Aug. 2-4 (Mozart and Movement). Each camp will meet from 9 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Fun activities geared around specif-

ic themes will give children the chance to explore, socialize, and create. Cost is $30 per child or $80 for all 3 camps. Registration

forms can be found in the Gathering Area outside the Sanctuary. Call or email Kelly Oswalt for more information at 925-2570 or

[email protected].

Runners and walkers- mark your calendars!

The First United Methodist School of Early Learning is hosting the Daisy Walk/

Run in honor and memory of children. The date of the event is Saturday, Sep-

tember 17, 2011 at 8:00 a.m. This event will be open to the congregation, pre-

school families, and the community.

The walk/run starts at Rieke Park, with the majority of the event taking place on the nature trail

and finishing in a park pavilion.

We hope to raise funds to offer scholarships to preschool families. During the 2010-2011 school

year, over 25 families received assistance from the First United Methodist School of Early Learning scholarship program. We hope

to help at least the same number of families for the upcoming preschool year. Can you help? Register online at

www.auburnfirstunited.com to participate.

Not interested in running or walking? You can still join in! We are looking for volunteers to help on the day of the event. Contact

Kelly Oswalt at 925-2570 or email [email protected] to find out how you can help. Approximately 30 volunteers are

needed. We would love to have you assist!

We hope you can help us — not only in honoring and remembering children — but in furthering the endeavors of our preschool by

participating or volunteering!

Please feel free to contact Director Kelly Oswalt with any questions.
