National Youth Leadership Training is an exciting, action-packed program designed for councils to provide youth members with leadership skills and experience they can use in their home troops, crews, churches, families and in other situations, both in and outside of Scouting, that demand leadership of self and others.

NYLT

Recognition

Upon completion of the course you will be presented your NYLT certificate and patch at a graduation ceremony to which we invite your parents and unit Scout leader. Many Scouts and Venturers consider NYLT to be one of the highlights of their Scouting careers and will return in subsequent years as staff members.

What’s the Big Deal?

Participants learn to use current corporate leadership skills within the framework of the Scout Oath and Scout Law. BSA National carefully developed the NYLT curriculum with input from current corporate trainers, the United States Air Force Academy and others in the training community. Graduates of this program become senior leaders in their troop, team, or crew, as well as leaders in their schools, churches and communities.

Why Should I Attend?

• NYLT is a world-class leadership training course that will change your life!

• Oh, and it’s run by YOUTH!

• You will learn and develop skills that will make you a better leader, student, employee, son or daughter, sister or brother, volunteer, and a better person!

• You will develop life-long friendships! • Great food and lots of it! • The course is co-ed (yes, that means girls!) • You will have lots of F-U-N!

What Will I Learn?

In addition to participating in fun games, projects, team-building activities, inspirational flag ceremonies, movies, and campfire programs, you will also enjoy presentations and activities focusing on key leadership skills including: • Vision-Goals-

Planning • SMART goals • Planning and Problem Solving Tools • Assessment Tool • Teaching & Leadership Tools (EDGE) • Team Development Model • Conflict Resolution Tool • Making Ethical Decisions • Communication • Valuing People • Servant Leadership

What About the Staff?

The course is led and taught by some of the best youth leaders in the council, all of whom are graduates of the NYLT program. The adult advisors who assist the youth staff are Wood Badge-trained, with exten-sive experience in training programs and various leadership positions, both in and out of Scouting.
