rules & SAFETYSince most fans brandish weapons of some kind or another that are usually created from Nerf guns etc. we have a fairly open policy. If the weapon is in fact a toy you may keep it in the open. If the weapon is based on a real gun, blade or knife we ask that it is peace-bound to a holster or sheath on your person for safety. You may be asked to show your weapon if a security person is wondering whether or not it is a toy. They are doing their job, and no one wants an incident; please make common sense decisions regarding weapons.

Weapons at the McLean County Museum of History (NEW for 2019):The Museum of History does not allow any weapons — including props — to be carried inside the building. A check-in table will be set up at the entrance to safely hold any costume prop weapons during your time inside the Museum of History.

WEAPONSIndividuals are prohibited from possessing functional firearms, explosives or items designated as weapons by Cogs & Corsets organizers. Any individual found in possession of a concealed weapon will be reported to local law enforcement regardless of the individual’s concealed carry status or credentials.

WEAPON-LIKE PROPSWeapon-like props are to be at all times sheathed, holstered or slung, unloaded, inert or otherwise rendered nonfunctional and never used in a provoking, harassing or threatening manner. Check in at the Registration Table to have your weapon-like prop peace tied. Due to safety and legal concerns individuals with “deactivated” firearms, realistic-looking or replica weapons, or any item otherwise designated or deemed unsafe regardless of whether it conforms to policy or the ‘letter of the law’ will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Any individual in violation of policy or found to be under the influence while carrying a weapon-like prop may be directed to remove the item from the premises.

FULL-COVERAGE MASKS: For the security of the festival and the comfort of all attendees, masks, helmets or hoods that completely obscure an individual’s features are not permitted. Exceptions will be made for ensembles while on the runway during the Costume Contest only.

HARASSMENT & ALTERCATIONSAny form of harassment or altercation, including but not limited to verbal or physical between guests, participants, or any event volunteer will NOT be tolerated and will be subject to immediate resolution at the discretion of Cogs & Corsets organizers or designee therein. Any incidents involving a physical altercation will be immediately turned over to local law enforcement.

CONDUCTExcept for events listed as 21+ (noted in event descriptions) Cogs & Corsets is a family-friendly event. Please keep conduct appropriate and considerate to all age groups.

Cogs & Corsets, the City of Bloomington, and festival partners are not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged property, or for injuries sustained during the course of the event.

OUR FEATURED PRESENTER

ENTERTAINMENT

Professor Zebulon Vitruvius Pike (alias Kevin Geiselman) graciously joins us once again as our headline presenter!

Prof. Pike is a gentleman adventurer, mercenary explorer, dime novel hero and veteran of the late unpleasantness. After serving in the US Aeroship Cavalry and as special agent to the President, Pike left government service to travel the world. When not saving civilization as we know it from science pirates, abominations of nature and invaders from the beyond, Professor Vitruvius occasionally lectures on topics of interest in history, science and technology.

Don’t miss Professor Pike’s fascinating 2019 presentation line-up:

Mystery Airships of 1897 (Saturday, 10–11am, Museum of History)

Humbug! Hoaxes, Charlatans, and Pseudoscience of the 19th Century (Saturday, 12–1pm, Museum of History)

The Hollow Earth (Saturday, 1–2pm, Museum of History)

Joshua Kane — Raised in an illegal boarding house and obsessed from an early age with books, magic, spoken word, fire-eating and the theatre, Joshua Kane was destined for a career on the stage, or as an international spy.

Kane is a classically trained actor who has studied with Stella Adler, Bobby Lewis, the National Shakespeare Conservatory, and Marcel Marceau. A member of Actors’ Equity Association, Kane has toured internationally. His Gothic at Midnight performance is an award-winning tribute

to the Masters of the Macabre, drawing from the works of Poe, Dickens and Bierce, taking delighted audiences on a roller-coaster ride of spine-tingling thrills and laughter.

ArcAttack — These Austin-based performers bring their ‘singing Tesla Coils’ to the BCPA for an electrifying event like no other. Traditional instruments pair with high-tech machinery and robotics for a show that mixes music, science, and lightning. ArcAttack has been on Through the Wormhole with Morgan Freeman, made it to the Season 5 semi-finals of America’s Got Talent, and designed the Tesla Coils for David Blaine’s 2012 endurance stunt on Pier 54 in NYC. ArcAttack is also featured in the massively multiplayer online role-playing game AdventureQuest Worlds

as a band in the game’s story “Doomwood Saga.”

The Tea Ladies — Local celebrities Nancy Perzo and Karen Patton have been bringing Victorian and Edwardian history to life for 16 years with their entertaining and educational presentations. Always high interest, their wonderfully interactive programs are presented with props, music, and visuals to enhance your experience.

Ceilidh Bandicoots — If a respectable 18th Century Scottish music duo got roughed up in an alley by the rhythm section of a late-night Cape Breton band, you’d have the Ceilidh Bandicoots Band (Tim Macdonald, Jeremy Ward, Jonathan Whitall and Meg Dedolph). The Chicago-based quartet mixes jigs, reels and marches, anchoring fiddle and cello tunes with a solid piano-and-drums rhythm section to deliver rollicking Scottish dance music for contras and country dances.
