June 1, 2020

St. Justin, Martyr

To the Good People of St. Mary of the Lakes Catholic Church and School: On this brilliantly sunny Monday morning, I write this fourth pastoral letter during the pandemic, looking out my window, just above beautiful pink and yellow roses. At the same time, I am so very mindful of the violent unrest that has plagued the cities of our nation in the aftermath of the wrongful death of George Floyd of Minneapolis. May the Lord restore peace to our world, our nation, our states, our cities, our towns, our homes and our hearts. Jesus breathed on the Apostles that first Pentecost and said, “Peace be with you . . . Receive the Holy Spirit.” Added to the tension already present from the pandemic, we pray all the more fervently for God’s holy grace, which is always truly and merely sufficient. On a happier note, I am please to announce that 9:00 a.m. daily Mass will be offered in the parking lot outside of cars (weather permitting) beginning Monday, June 8. Everyone two-years-old and older will be required to wear a mask. When you arrive, please park your car in the gravel parking lot or in the section straight ahead of the entrance and to the right of the Church. Please bring your own beach chair/s, which you will carry to the other end of the parking lot near the Emmaus Center, where Mass will be offered. You may sit together with those who came with you in your car, but please make sure there is six feet between you and those near you. Holy Communion will be distributed by the priests and extraordinary ministers, going to the communicants, who will stay at their places. Saturday Vigil (5:30 p.m.) and Sunday (8:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m. and noon) Masses will be offered in Church beginning June 13 and 14. A link on the homepage of the parish website will be created to reserve your seat/s as you would do to attend a movie. Further directions will be available once the link is activated. The other option will be to contact the parish office and Mary or Lenora will be happy to make the reservation for you. There are 207 seats available at each Mass. For now, please be aware, due to social distancing, that if you will attend Mass alone, you must reserve your seat on either side section of the Church. Those who will attend with others can reserve their seat in the middle of the Church. Everyone two-years-old and older will be required to wear a mask. Further directions will be given during the Mass to receive Holy

Communion and exit the Church. Confessions will be heard outdoors (weather permitting) beginning Saturday, June 13 at 9:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. If a line forms, please stand six feet apart. When making your confession, please stand by the barrier, which will be positioned six feet from Father Roy or me. Baptisms will be celebrated beginning Sunday, June 14. Baptisms may be scheduled at any time on any day, provided one of the clergy is available at the time you are requesting. Only your family can celebrate Baptism at that time and there will be a 25-person limit. Please call the parish office to schedule a Baptism. Memorial Masses will be offered beginning Monday, June 15. Please contact the Parish Office to schedule a Memorial Mass. Memorial Masses may have up to 200 persons in attendance. Everyone two-years-old and older will be required to wear a mask. The Lord has been so present to us as we have prayed for those adversely affected by the pandemic and the riots: those who contracted Coronavirus and have recovered; those who are still suffering from Coronavirus; those who have completed this life’s journey and are now with the Lord; those who have put themselves at the service of others and at risk to themselves; those who have lost their job, their business and/or their savings; and those others who are isolated with no one to visit or pray for them. May we continue to be their faithful intercessors, knowing full well that God’s grace is always truly and merely sufficient. Assuring you of my prayers, and asking yours in return, I am Sincerely yours in Christ,

Father Dan

Vacation Bible School Update Vacation Bible School 2020 has fallen victim to the

pandemic. We have made the very difficult decision to cancel for this year. We all really look forward to VBS each

summer; it is a labor of love involving an army of volunteers of all ages who devote a great deal of time to make this a truly wonderful experience for the children of

our Parish. Hopefully, we can resume this much-loved program in 2021.

In Challenging times- it’s great to have supports like you!

Sheltering in place? Imagine if you had no place in which to shelter. Right now, with (as you know) our

host congregaons shut down and most of our volunteers and staff staying home, we are sll doing our

best to honor our commitment to homeless families with children. Our most recent family just moved

out into transional housing and we are in the process of selecng a new family in their place.

Your very generous donaon of $500 means more than you can know, and will bear good fruit! Thanks

to contribuons from our concerned community faith congregaons, companies and individual donors,

we are able to connue by using some new and innovave methods. Extraordinary mes call for extraor-

dinary measures. As you know, we will be using this donaon for motel shelter, as I doubt we will be able

to go back to our normal rotaon before May, if then.

IHN: serving homeless families with children since 1997. Four hundred and thirty-one families to date,

and as many more as we are able! Thank you!

Keep well and thank you again for thinking of the less fortunate at a me when

we could jusfiably be concerned only with ourselves and our families.

A PRAYER FOR GOING DEEPER O Divine Presence,

I do not enter the deeper realm all by myself.

Always you are there with me, as a guide to protect and direct me,

as a loving companion to embrace and support me, as a wise One to provide both challenge and solace.

O Divine Presence, as I go deeper to discover my roots,

wrap me in your love. Strengthen me as I face fear and insecurity,

surprise me with hidden treasures waiting within me. O Divine Presence,

when I feel shaky and uncertain from seeking and searching,

assure me often that I am always rooted in your love.

Remind me often that I am always rooted in your love.

Remind me often that your love never leaves me,

even when I lose the road to my inner home. O Divine Presence,

You desire my wholeness. You would never lead me anywhere

that would destroy me. Here is my life.

I place it in your care as I commit myself to going deeper.

Amen.

St. Mary of the Lakes This Week

All ministry and extracurricular activities at SMLCCS are cancelled.

A Coronavirus Prayer Jesus Christ, you traveled through towns and

villages “curing every disease and illness.” At your command, the sick were made well. Come to our aid now, in the midst of the global spread of the coronavirus, that we may experience your healing love. Be with the doctors, nurses, researchers and all medical professionals who seek to heal and help those affected and who put themselves at

risk in the process. May they know your protection and peace. May victims regain their strength and health

through quality medical care. Heal us from our fear. Stay by our side in this time of uncertainty and sorrow. Be with those who have died from the virus. May they be at rest with you in your eternal peace. Hear our prayer, O Divine

Physician. Hear our prayer.

Amen.

Act of Spiritual Communion Prayer My Jesus,

I believe that You are present in the

Most Holy Sacrament.

I love You above all things,

and I desire to receive You into my

soul.

Since I cannot at this moment receive You

sacramentally,

come at least spiritually into my heart.

I embrace You as if You were already there and

unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You.

Amen.

Parish Office Drop Box Just a friendly reminder to please use the Parish Office

Drop Box next to the Rectory front door for drop offs and

church envelopes.

Thank you !

SOMETHING TO MAKE YOU SMILE

Corona Marian Prayer O clement, O loving, O sweet

Mother Mary, we, your children of every nation, turn to you during this pandemic. Our troubles

at your feet as we take refuge in your Immaculate Heart. Bless us with peace, healing,

rescue, and timely help with all our needs. You are our Mother. Pray for us to your Son.

Amen.
