and this comes in part through our having respect first for God, and allowing it to continue to flow outward to others.

Have you considered having a life verse that guides your steps each and every day? One such verse is found in Colossians 3:17 which states, “And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.” As a child of God our life is supposed to resemble the life of Jesus.

Respect for God and others in Metter should begin with us. Are you willing to commit this unto the Lord so that He will use us to be the example to follow? it must be our desire to make Metter better through Jesus Christ our Lord. As we do, I know the best is yet to come.

those in positions of authority have been placed there by God. So any-one who rebels against authority is rebelling against what God has insti-tuted, and they will be punished.” Do you actually want to be rebelling against God? Paul continues later in the chapter by saying, “So you must submit to them, not only to avoid punishment, but also to keep a clear conscience.” It should be our desire to not only have peace with God, but also have peace with self and others. No one can take a clear conscience away from you, except you.

To be an example for others to follow will require consistency and commit-ment to living God’s way. This is why our daily life must include time set aside for God, so that we can know Him and learn His ways and what to do as we follow Him. Journaling each and everyday is ideal as it helps you go back and review what the Lord has been teaching in our time with Him each and every day. It serves as an encouragement to know that God loves us and provides everything needed to have the abundant life filled with joy and peace. It is a blessing to have a clear conscience,

MORNING: RECONCILIATION — 2 SAMUEL 3

EVENING: TURN — MATTHEW 5:5

The Sunday School lesson this past week on respect got me thinking. Unless we have respect for God and ourselves, how will we ever begin to have respect for others, including those in authority who, by the way, have been placed there by God? Respect seems to be a lost art these days in virtually every area of our society. We should all agree that certain positions and titles deserve a certain measure of respect. I also know that a person who truly respects others will be respectful of those above them even if they rightfully should have the position, like David as we have been reading in Scripture with Saul. The next step in even having respect for those below us will not be a problem either. What will it take for us to be an example to others, leading them to be respectful, too, as we honor all people no matter what their status might be?

Scripture guides our steps at this point. Paul has a few verses that we should consider. First, Biblical teaching is clear in Romans 13, which states, “Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God, and

“A Christian is someone to whom God entrusts all his fellow men.”
