Sushi displayThis is the candy sushi that I made so the kids could see what we would be doing after the read-aloud.

Who likes sushi? The kids wanted to explain their tastes, too. Most had never actually eaten sushi before.

Sushi introductionBefore getting messy, I read the book Sushi for Kids: A childrens introduction to Japans favorite food by Kaoru Ono

Sushi ingredientsVery adventuresome eaters! These kids have eaten/would eat anythingor so they said!

Time for chopsticks! This was a mini chopsticks tutorial. The kids were very eager. They could ALL use them properlythey thought.

This is how they workThis is where I tried to show them the proper way to use chopsticks.

Maybe well cheatshhhh, dont tellThey didnt quite get it so we went the easy route and used rubber bands to turn them into pinchers.

Bring on the candy!...I mean, sushi! The first type of candy sushi we made involved wrapping fruit roll-ups around swiss cake rolls.

Im a proAt making a mess! The second batch of sushi we made consisted of wrapping rice krispy treats around twizzlers and gummi worms, topping it all off with fish shaped fruit snacks.

Lets eat! After all of that hard work, it was time to chow down.

Sushi take-outThe participants got to take home their sushi as well as what I made. They also got to take the chopsticks, as well.
