Week by Week through The Year of Mercy
Yet again in Ordinary Time, Jesus seems to demand extraordi-
nary commitment. A would-be disciple enthusiastically volun-
teers to follow Jesus “wherever” (Luke 9:57). Jesus replies that
“wherever” means “nowhere to rest his head” (9;58). To other
candidates, Jesus brusquely denies reasonable requests to fulfill
family obligations (9:59, 61), declaring that discipleship de-
mands total commitment—now! But Jesus also demands
that we not judge how others respond. When James and
John volunteered to “call down fire from heav-
en” (9:55). All violence of any kind is completely unac-
ceptable among Jesus’ disciples, a lesson this Jubilee
Year of Mercy is teaching the Christian community
once again. Paul’s challenge to Galatians and us rein-
forces Jesus’ decisive command to James and John
that they express their commitment to him through
compassion for others. We must abandon the violence
of “biting and devouring one another” (Galatians 5:15).
Choosing instead to “choosing instead to “serve one
another through love” (5:13).

The Knight’s Corner Did You Know…Our Council generously
contributes toward the academic expenses of
Capuchin Brothers as they continue their jour-
ney toward priesthood. This fall, three broth-
ers will be studying at the St. Conrad Friary in Berkeley,
CA. These young men are an inspiration to all of us.
Our second (of four) BBQs is scheduled for the weekend
of 16 July with the site still to be determined. We truly
appreciate your support and generosity at these events as
the BBQs are the major source of funding for our charita-
ble outreach programs.
Question of the Week: While “resolutely determining to journey” with Je-
sus this week, which priorities do I need to reorder?
Which relationships refresh or rearrange? Which
judgements of others do I need to transform into
serene and no-judgmental prayer? Annual Filipino Dinner
Queen of Angel’s Annual Filipino Dinner will be on Satur-
day, July 16th following the 5:00 p.m. Mass. Tickets will
be available after weekend Masses and at the rectory. Adults
$8.00 and children under 10 years of age $4.00. Ticket
Sale deadline is Wednesday, July 13. Tickets will not be
available at the door, so get yours early.
No take out dinners!
Old Mission Santa Inés Needs You! We are accepting signups to
be a docent for our museum. There is no cost except your time.
We will train you and give you the materials you will need to be a
good docent. Training will be 3 days per week for 2 weeks, start-
ing July 11. Please call Paul Melancon 693-97060 or the parish
office to volunteer. If you have questions, please call Paul.
Baptismal Class The exciting and meaningful experience of
Baptism str engthens our families and
parish community with God. Whether bap-
tized as a baby or an adult, Parents and
Godparents need to attend a Baptismal class before bap-
tizing his or her child. Baptismal classes are scheduled
the last Tuesdays of each month. The next scheduled
baptismal class is June 28, 2016 at 6:30p.m.
Daily Mass It would be edifying to see every family coming
to daily Mass at least once a week besides Satur-
day evening or Sunday. Please encourage our
young people to come to daily Mass and if you
are not working or on a break during this sum-
mer, give a good example by coming with them. We all
need so much spiritual help these days. What a great way to
start off the day by participating in daily Mass and receiving
Christ in Holy Communion. Daily Mass lasts approximately
½ hour.

En el Evangelio de hoy Jesús comienza decididamente
su “viaje a Jerusalén” y lo hace con cierta urgencia,
diciéndoles a los discípulos lo que deben hacer para
poder seguirlo. Al escuchar estas palabras de hoy, tal
vez podamos examinar nuestra propia vida y ver lo que
necesita dejarse a un lado o atrás para poder seguir a
Jesús mas de cerca.
Clases Bautismales La experiencia emocionante y significativa del Bautis-
mo fortalece nuestras familias y de la comunidad parro-
quial con Dios. Ya sea bautizado cuando era un bebé o
un adulto, el Bautismo es el primer paso en un viaje de
por vida con Dios. Los padres y padrinos deben asistir a
una clase de bautismo antes de bautizar a su hijo o hija.
Clases bautismales se han programado el último martes
de cada mes. La próxima clase bautismal programada el
28 de Junio, a las 6:30pm en el salón parroquial. Misa Diaria
Seria edificante ver a cada familia venir a la Misa diaria a
menos una vez por semana aparte del sábado en la tarde o
el domingo. Por favor animen a nuestra juventud a venir
a Misa daría y si no esta trabajando de un buen ejemplo y
venga con ellos. En estos día participando en la Misa diaria y reci-
biendo la Santa Comunión. La Misa Diaria dura aproximadamente
½ hora. El Rosario se reza 30 minutos antes de la misa durante la
semana (en inglés). Los invitamos a que nos acompañen.
Cena Anual Filipino
La Iglesias Reina de los Ángeles tendrán su Cena Anual Fili-
pino será el sábado 13 de julio después de las 5:00 pm. Los
boletos estarán disponibles después de las misas de fin de
semana y en la rectoría. Adultos $8.00 y los niños menores de
10 años $ 4.00. Plazo de venta de entradas es Miércoles, 13
de julio 2016. Los boletos no estarán disponibles en la
puerta, así que consiga el suyo antes de tiempo.
Sabia usted que ... Nuestro Consejo generosamente
contribuye a los gastos académicos de hermanos capuchi-
nos a medida que continúan su camino hacia el sacerdocio.
Este otoño, los tres hermanos se estudia en el Conrad Con-
vento St. en Berkeley, CA. Estos jóvenes son una inspir-
ación para todos nosotros.
Nuestro segundo (de cuatro) barbacoas está prevista para el fin de semana
del 16 de julio con el sitio aún por determinar. Nosotros realmente apreci-
amos su apoyo y generosidad en estos eventos como las barbacoas son la
principal fuente de financiación para nuestros programas de extensión de
caridad.
