Julie Duhn commented on moniesspent on the Courthouse securityguard presence.County Attorney Darrell Meyerthanked local law enforcementagencies, officers, and jail staff fortheir professionalism in the face ofdangerous and difficult work. Nederhoff claimed that thetax payment made in September2019 would be equal to a full-yearpayment had the assessment beencorrect. Further, Nederhoff stated,assessments for taxes payable FY2020-2021 have already been ad-justed downward to reflect the unfin-ished units. It was mentioned that any abate-ment would affect the various levy-ing authorities and each of these en-tities would be required to makebudget adjustments.It was agreed that Assessor DonKnoell and Auditor Jessica Larashould collaborate to calculate actu-al taxes owed for FY 2019-2020. Nederhoff requested his client havepenalty and interest forgiven shoulda determination be made after theJune 25 property tax extensiondeadline. Public Comments: Donna Juber asked which regionsand counties make up the SouthCentral Iowa Workforce Area. Juberalso commented on coronavirus in-cidence versus test data and pro-tecting the elder population, as wellas measuring separation distancebetween a CAFO and well. Julie Duhn commented on moniesspent on the Courthouse securityguard presence.County Attorney Darrell Meyerthanked local law enforcementagencies, officers, and jail staff fortheir professionalism in the face ofdangerous and difficult work. Nederhoff claimed that thetax payment made in September2019 would be equal to a full-yearpayment had the assessment beencorrect. Further, Nederhoff stated,assessments for taxes payable FY2020-2021 have already been ad-justed downward to reflect the unfin-ished units. It was mentioned that any abate-ment would affect the various levy-ing authorities and each of these en-tities would be required to makebudget adjustments.It was agreed that Assessor DonKnoell and Auditor Jessica Larashould collaborate to calculate actu-al taxes owed for FY 2019-2020. Nederhoff requested his client havepenalty and interest forgiven shoulda determination be made after theJune 25 property tax extensiondeadline. Discussion was held on the limitedreopening of County buildings. Itwas decided that admittance will re-main by appointment only, and de-partment heads will meet in twoweeks to reevaluate.Topics then turned to appropriationsand salaries. Granzow gave per-mission for department heads toaward wage increases of 1.3% or asotherwise presented to the Boardduring budget work sessions. How-ever, Granzow advised, with thechange in insurance, there may beexcess monies in the budget. Hecautioned department heads not tospend all funds appropriated tothem, as those funds may be need-ed for COVID-19 relief or for carry-over. Department heads were reminded tocomplete their employees perfor-mance reviews.Other Business:Treasurer Machel Eichmeier notedher staff is having difficulty hearingthrough the glass panels installed ather counter.Veterans Affairs Director BernieKoehrsen advised he received$12,000 in grant money which willallow him to convert the VAs van toaccommodate wheelchair-bound pa-tients. Engineer Roll proposed a fundraiserfor an employee whose houseburned down.Auditor Jessica Lara requested thatdepartment heads submit theirsalary sheets to Becca Junker, Pay-roll and Benefits Manager, by June12, 2020, to compile and forward tothe Board for approval.
