There is a certain fascination withroyalty. One recent example is theDiamond Jubilee celebration of Britain’sQueen Elizabeth II. Her accession tothe throne came at the young age of 26with the untimely death of her father,King George VI on February 6, l952.Her coronation was held on June 2,l953 in Westminster Abbey, London.And for the first time, the ceremony wasbroadcast on television. Some of usremember watching her coronation onour black and white television sets at atime when television was in its infancy.

I have some words of faith and hopefor all believers in Jesus Christ. Royaltyruns in our veins. Jesus said, “… thekingdom of God is within you” (Luke17:21). Inasmuch as we allow Christ tolive in us, it can be said the kingdom ofGod dwells in us. We are part of thatroyal priesthood Peter talked about in IPeter 2:9. They were words ofencouragement for believers underRoman persecution. It was a reminderthat believers in Christ are citizens oftwo worlds, heaven and earth (I Peter2:11).

If we truly believe we are children ofroyalty, how can we ever suffer from lowself-esteem? As royal priests, we arecalled to represent Christ to others …to love as Christ loves … to forgive asChrist forgives … to serve others in Hisholy and royal name.

Prayer: Dear Lord, help us toremember that with privilege comesresponsibility. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Norma passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2012in Plainwell. Norma was born November 9, 1920to Motley and Mary (Rubert) Tefft in Otsego onthe family farm. Norma graduated from OtsegoHigh School in 1937 then worked at Mol’sRestaurant and was a bookkeeper at OtsegoSanitary Milk. Norma was a life member of theOtsego VFW Post 3030. She married LyleBentley and had two sons, Russell and Gerald‘Gery’ Bentley. They loved fishing and huntingtogether. Also surviving are her grandchildren,Russell II (Jacque), Reneé (Curtis) Adams bothof AZ; Brandy (Phil) Goodwin of Otsego, G.R.(Sarah) of Kalamazoo and Brittany of Otsego; 5great-grandchildren, Donovan, Aidan andMadeline Goodwin and Russell III and AnastasiaBentley; step-son, Donald (Gwen) of Allegan; 5step-grandchildren and spouses, and severalgreat-grand and great great grandchildren andfamily. She was preceded in death by herhusband Lyle in 1965, an infant brother HowardTefft, son Russell in 2004, 2 sisters, LoisVanderMeer and Bertine Warner and a brother,Motley Tefft. Lee passed awaySaturday, June 16,2012 in Kalamazoo.Lee was bornNovember 4, 1930in Port Sanilac, MI the son ofHoward and Myrtle (Pohzehl)Erbe. Following high school

Lee enlisted in the Army and spent 3 years inGermany during the Korean War. Following histime in the service he met and married Sylvia(McLane) on May 15, 1954 in Sandusky, MI. Leebegan working for International Harvester out ofSaginaw and had opportunities in different states,moving up the ranks until he purchased his owntruck dealership in IL in 1967. He sold hisdealership in the early 1970’s so that he and hisfamily could move back to Michigan. In MichiganLee continued working with IH until 1980 when hebegan working in sales permitting for Natural GasExploration until his retirement in 1990. Followingretirement he continued to stay busy volunteeringto help people in need. Lee and Sylvia spentwinters in Lake Travis, TX. He was a member ofthe American Legion, VFW, Elks and was afaithful attender of the First CongregationalChurch of Otsego. Lee enjoyed golfing, playingcards, and his morning coffee with his buddies.He loved spending time with his friends but mostof all his family. Once he made a friend it wasimportant to Lee to keep in touch no matterwhere they lived. Surviving are his wife Sylvia; hischildren, Allyson (Ian) Davidson of TX, David(Melisa) of TX, Scott Erbe and Paul (Heather)Erbe both of Kalamazoo; 8 grandchildren,Joshua, Jonah, Collin, Alexandra, Sebastian,Atticus, Ethan and Evan. Lee was preceded indeath by his parents and an infant son, Thomas.Cremation has taken place. A memorial servicewill be held on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at11:00am at the First Congregational Church,Otsego with Pastor David Youngs officiating.Military Honors by VFW Post #3030. Burial ofashes will take place at a later date in GreenwoodCemetery, Sandusky, MI. Memorial contributionsmay be made to the First Congregational Churchor the Lutheran Hour.

Reta M. POUNTAINAGE 85 - ALLEGAN

Reta passed away Sunday, June 17, 2012 inKalamazoo. Mrs. Pountain was born August 6,1926 in Manton, Michigan to Roy and Edith(Porter) Brown. Reta grew up in New Buffalo,Michigan and then lived in Kalamazoo. For manyyears she was employed with Shakespeare Co.and later with the bakeries at W.M.U. and K-College. In her leisure time she enjoyed knittingand crocheting. On May 5, 1950 in Kalamazooshe married Donald E. Pountain, who died in2009. Also preceding her in death were hersisters, Bess Mundt and Dorothy Young; and herbrother, Leo Brown. Surviving are two sons,Donald B. (Gaile) Pountain of Allegan and Darryl(Louise) Pountain of Mattawan; six grandchildren;15 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson;several nieces and nephews. Cremation hastaken place and a Memorial Service will be heldat a later date. Contributions in memory of Retamay be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mr. Watson was born November 2,1937 in Hillsdale to Roy and Ruth (Camp) Watsonand was raised by Donald and Martha VerHage.For 30 years he was employed as a truck driver,first with Phil McVean Trucking in Martin and thenwith Menasha Corp. in Otsego. Jim was an avidTigers fan. On August 15, 1958 in WatsonCorners he was married to Yvonne Brooks, whosurvives. Also surviving are three children, Randy(Sharon) Watson of Allegan, Dawn (Kevin) Brownof Fountain Hills, AZ and Kim (Bill) Rohr ofOtsego; 8 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; asister, Hazel; three half-sisters, Shirley, Mary Louand Rosalee; brothers, Isaac VerHage, DonaldVerHage and Duane VerHage; many nieces andnephews. He was preceded in death by hisparents, Roy and Ruth Watson and Donald andMartha VerHage; brothers, Herbert Watson andLawrence VerHage; and sisters, Charlotte andAnn.
