Strategies & Field Marketing Shane Allen will handle the region in addition to his other label responsibilities. Monday’s CAT reported that RCA/Nashville Dir./Midwest Promotion Mike Sirls was leaving his label home of the last eight years next month to take a little break from the business. This was his second stint with Nipper, having previously served a six-year run. For the next month, reach him at [email protected]. RCA VP/Promotion Keith Gale can be contacted about the open post at [email protected]. Also yesterday, the CAT broke the news that Eric Beggs had resigned from Show Dog, where he spent the last two years as Southeast regional.

WSIX Dreams For St. Jude WSIX (The Big 98)/Nashville completed its St. Jude Dream House promotion last night, raising $1.6 million dollars in the process. The station sold $100 tickets for a chance to win the home, with the lucky winners hailing from Clarksville, TN. “Everybody here is on cloud 9(8) today,” says PD Keith Kaufman. “To think that when we ask our audience to send us their money for two days during radiothon...they respond by sending over $417,000. Then we ask them to spend $100 on a raffle ticket and 16,000 do it -- it’s mind boggling.” Since starting the Dream House promotion in 2005, The Big 98 has raised $5.2 million for St. Jude.

Kenny Root, Root, Roots For Cubbies Prior to Saturday’s “Poets & Pirates Tour” date before 50,000 fans in Chicago’s iconic Soldier Field, Kenny Chesney dropped by the friendly confines of Wrigley Field to sing “Take Me Out To The Ball Game” during the seventh inning stretch.

The Cubs were trailing the Chicago White Sox 3-1 at the time, but shortly after Chesney was done and joined Cubs’ broadcasters to chat in the bottom half of the inning, a pair of Cubs hit back-to-back homers to tie the game. Remarked Cubs’ broadcaster Bob Brenley to Chesney after the second shot, “I didn’t know Derrek Lee and Aramis

CMT Radio Network’s Angela Gimlin discusses her most meaningful songs, albums or concerts:1. Andrew Lloyd Webber: His work is beautiful and catchy. Hey, don’t make fun. 2. U2, Achtung Baby: U2 can do no wrong in my eyes. (Okay, maybe that “Lemon” song was a tad obnoxious, but cut the kids a break!) I was introduced to them at a young age and one of my goals in life is to see them live before I die.

3. Garth Brooks, Oklahoma City, July 1997: I was working as a part time jock for KLAW/Lawton, OK and we had helped him sell a ton of tickets in our neck of the woods. I had never seen such a show and don’t expect to again. I became a lifelong fan of my fellow Okie.4. “Boomer Sooner”: You know, the University of Oklahoma fight song? Hey, I’m not copying Gator Michaels. I am simply saying we both have great taste in college sports teams.5. Anything by Patsy Cline: Her voice could melt cheese.• A highly regarded song or album you’ve never heard: Anything by Rush. I am told I need to be a musician to understand.• An “important” piece of music you just don’t get: “Smells Like Teen Spirit” by Nirvana. • An album you played or listened to incessantly: Abbey Road by The Beatles. I actually truly discovered the Beatles in college. Being a theater dork, we would hang around the green room and this album was constantly piped through the sound system. Since then, I think I have burned through about five copies of this CD.

Ramirez were country music fans, but you certainly inspired them.” Pictured with Chesney as he exhorted the crowd (“three strikes you’re out”) are his father (red cap) and ABC-TV’s Kirk Herbstreet.

Jewel To Jimmy: PDs Are OK “There’s nothing better than radio program directors,” smirked Jimmy Kimmel while interviewing Jewel on his show last week. “Salt of the earth.” The context of the conversation was the Valory artist’s move to country and how she was introducing herself to Country radio. And there she was sticking up for the format. “No, actually...they really consider themselves guardians of the format. They care. They love music still. So it’s nice not to have just a bunch of jaded people.” See the full interview here.

Toby On Tour (continued from page 1)“Toby’s stage has been revamped and the show opens with a video talking about his new movie and some skits featuring the Ford F-150. I don’t want to spoil anything, just don’t miss the video open. The audience loved it...and Toby. “The show is up tempo with only a few ballads, keeping the fans on their feet for the whole concert. The slower songs give couples a chance to snuggle and sway. Mica Roberts gets called out to solo with the Easy Money Band and then duet with Toby on‘Let’s Get Trashed.’ Every seat seems like front row with the giant video wall behind Toby. There are explosions, fireworks and confetti cannons. The show is loud and rowdy... and the crowd was too.” Wyatt agrees, calling it, “Probably one of the best Toby shows I have ever seen. The stage set is a giant front end of the

new Ford truck. Very impressive. In all, a good rowdy time sure to impress hardcore Toby fans and general country music fans along with jaded radio workers.” “With gas prices at $4.00 or higher, this show provides the diversion everyone deserves,” Case concludes. “You get your money’s worth in hit songs alone. The awesome stage show is icing on the cake.”
