Dear Parishioners,

Let me begin by wishing all the fathers in our parish a grace-filled Father’s Day. We all know the importance of a healthy relationship between children and their fathers. Being a father is ultimately an act of love which fa-thers give to their children in a variety of ways. In this community we are blessed with many wonderful fathers and for all they do we should express our gratitude. In a special way I want to acknowledge the fathers who give witness to the importance of a faith life by their own example of prayer and service. What you offer to your chil-dren is invaluable. In our world today we see the idea of fatherhood moving in two very different directions. One sad note is that too many children have little or no relationship with their father. Too many men shirk their responsibilities. On a more positive note, in most families, fathers are far more involved in the raising of their children. Fathers are inti-mately involved in their children’s lives from the time the first diaper is changed till they leave home. What a blessing this can be, not only for children but for parents as well. One important aspect of fatherhood is presence. During these days of lockdown I expect many have felt the gift of presence with their families – certainly that came across in the blessings video that is on our website. I also am sure that many felt distance as you needed to distance yourself from elderly parents. I have been reflecting on my own fatherhood during these days of COVID 19. I want to take this time to thank you personally for allowing me to walk with you in a very different way these past few months at Our Lady of the Woods. A priest is called “Father” because he is called to be a father to a community. The difference be-tween being a father and simply an administrator is that a Father is called to love, to empower, to learn, and to share, as is true in any healthy family. I hope I have been that for many of you. For myself, these days are certainly challenging but I look forward to the opportunities and challenges to come. I have always been impressed by the many good people who make up Our Lady of the Woods. So many sup-port this parish through their prayers, their financial generosity, and their involved presence in so many ministries. This is even more evident in these past months and for this I thank you. Please continue to regularly check the parish website for any changes. WE are now open for Sunday and weekday Masses and are following all guidelines to keep you safe when in church together. In Christ,

Father Mike
