Key Selling Points: The Sidewinders, formed by Rich Hopkins and David Slutes in 1985, released their first full length album Cuacha! in 1988 on San Jacinto Records. From Tucson, Arizona they quickly gained national recognition with this release. They signed with Jay Faires' Mammoth Records who released their second album, WITCHDOCTOR in November of 1988. They got a deal with RCA and Witchdoctor was rereleased in 1989. From there they toured nationally with Charlie Sexton, Drivin’ n’ Cryin’, & The Replacements.

In 1990 they released their third album on RCA Auntie Ramos Pool Hall. This album landed in the top five of the college charts as did Witchdoctor. Quickly the wheels starting coming off for the band and by 1991 they were sued and changed their name to SAND RUBIES. They signed to Ensign/Chrysalis and recorded a new album Sand Rubies with producers Waddy Wachtel and David Briggs of Neil Young fame.

The album was bought out by Atlas/Polygram and released to critical acclaim but commercial failure in 1993. The band folded and it wasn't until 1997 that they reformed and released their comeback album RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD on Blue Rose Records/San Jacinto Records. The band still headed by Rich Hopkins and David Slutes are still playing together to this date!
