June 2019 The Importance of Sabbath Time At the beginning of each school year we start with a worship service just for the faculty and staff. It is an important reminder that what our teachers do is so much more that just a job, it’s a true vocaon and a real ministry. The responsibility that comes with the teaching the next generaon of children is a state- ment of true faith and an investment in the future. Then at the end of the school year we close out with another worship service, again just for faculty and staff. We give thanks for all that has transpired over the course of thirty-six weeks. We give thanks for the children who were entrusted to us at our school. We give thanks for the parents and the many sacrifices they made to send their sons and daughters to All Saints’ Episcopal School. We ask for forgiveness for those mes when we fell short of expectaons. We offer forgiveness for those students or parents who might have been difficult to work with over the course of the year. Theologically speaking, the enre school year is in fact one connuous offering of a prayer. Then there is the Summer break. Thanks be to God for the Summer break! It is sabbath me. It is me for rest and refreshment. It’s a me for renewal. It is a much needed and well deserved break for all of us, teachers, students, and parents, alike. Of course I’m reminded that at the end of the creaon story found in Genesis, God saw that all that was created was good and so then God took a rest on the seventh day. Thus the seventh day was set aside for holy sabbath me. There is an old joke about Episcopalians being the only ones that God trusts to go away on summer vaca- ons because they always come back when school starts back up in August. I’m not sure how true that statement really is but I do think it is used to explain the need for sabbath and rest, that corresponds with a slight decrease in summer aendance on Sunday morning worship services. Self-care is an important discipline. So be good to yourself. Take the me for rest and refreshment. Honor the sabbath as a holy me in your lives. When you are out of town on a vacaon do find a church to visit, even if it is not an Episcopal Church. Sit in the pew and give thanks to God for your Sabbath me. Bring me back a worship bullen. I love to see what other churches are doing. We have so much to look forward to this fall. All Saints’ will be celebrang our Golden 50th anniversary as a parish. There are numerous events celebrang this milestone that will lead up to our bishop’s visit on the second week of November. So take care of yourself this summer. Be sure to get some rest. That said, be ready for the fall. It’s going to be a great party and a wonderful celebraon at All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Morristown, TN. God’s Peace, Mark+

With plans in the works now for the Golden Anniversary Celebration in November this is a

wonderful opportunity for the creation of an “All Saints’ Historical Committee.” I am pleased to

announce that Jack Fishman has agreed to head this committee with Sarah Gose and Carolyn Dean

volunteering to work with him. It is very important that we include in the Time Capsule a history of

All Saints’ Church Morristown. I am extremely grateful to Jack, Sarah, and Carolyn for taking on this

task. If anyone is interested in working on this committee, please contact Jack, Sarah, Carolyn, or

myself for more information. In the coming months I am sure the committee will want to meet with

all who have knowledge or important facts concerning our church’s history.

As committees plan for what they want to include in the Time Capsule, we request that each

committee advise the Administration Committee of what your plans are. Diane Baker and the

Administration Committee will provide more information and deadlines for this to be completed.

There has been discussion for a need of a “Food Pantry” for those less fortunate. Above and beyond

Food on Foot, there is a need for a food pantry on the church site to assist those who come to our

church seeking assistance. As we are a church with a strong foundation in stewardship and giving

back to the community, it is only appropriate that we help fulfill this need. We will be exploring the

best way to implement, staff, and sustain this as we move forward. If you would like to help with this

or have input to share, please contact Sue Justis or myself.

Congratulations to our Graduates: Nikki Dosil and Braxton Mattocks from Morristown West High,

and Lauren Spencer-Pell from Home School. We wish them many successes as they continue on life’s

journey.

The Men’s Breakfast Team will suspend for the summer and will start back the first Sunday in August.

I would like to wish each and everyone a safe and enjoyable summer season.

Thank you and God’s Peace,

Bob Harmon, Sr. Warden

DOC'S SCOUT NEWS

Our Scout Troop 197 and Cub Scout Pack 197 had a great month. Our Cubs were so excited to have their first Pinewood Derby Car Race on their new track. The top fastest cars went to the district race and Juardo won 4th place. Our Scouts are work-ing hard on their rank advancements and getting ready for Spring Camporee.

Thank you Parish Family for everyone that bought discount camp cards and donated during the Out-reach Sunday loose change offering last month to help the scouts get to summer camp and all their activities! Remember we still have discount camp cards and All Saints pocket knives for sale.

Let the Joy of Service be expressed in our 2019 All Saints’ Mission Trip

The All Saint's mission trip 2019 is a wonderful way to demonstrate our Love for our Neighbors. As we serve again this year in South East Kentucky, we as a Christian community have the ability to affect change in the most profound way to help families in need and show our compassion and willing-ness to do the work of the Lord. The families we served during the 2018 mission trip were over-joyed with our youth's dedication and hard work in helping them repair their homes and strengthen-ing everyones since of community and humanity. I can say that the experience we all shared with these families in Whitley City Kentucky was an uplifting and joyous one for all. The families we served were so grateful and expressed how blessed they were with the youths participation and hard work last year. AventureServe Ministries, based in Louisville Kentucky will be hosting our youth mission trip again this year and will provide two camp coordinators that will lead our service and recreational activities as well as leading us in daily reflective, worship and fellowship time. This years theme is centered around "Joy" and how the presence of the Lord is reflected in the service and love we share with others in our community, especially those in need. We welcome all who wish to serve and or participate in this years Mission trip 2019. Philippians 2: 1-4 "Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being likeminded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain con-ceit. Rather in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interest but each of you to the interest of the others." The dates of the trip are July 14th thru the 20th. Several people have shown interest in helping and or participating. As of right now I have 4 adults and 7 youth confirmed but need to nail down the full participation list for our trip. I have booked the trip for 20 youth and 5 adults. If you and or your chil-dren wish to participate please fill out the "participation and liability release form". We are also en-couraging your children to invite a friend if they would like, we have plenty of room on the trip and would welcome their participation. I would also encourage our boy scout youth to join us. I will make copies of the information/liability form and place on the Table in the entry of the church and on the table in the reception hall. If you are unable to join us on this years trip there are many ways you can help our youth have a wonderful mission experience. You can make a donation to our youth ministry, assist with collecting equipment and tools needed on the trip and pray for and en-courage our youth and their families during this outreach opportunity. Peace and Blessing to all, Victor Bailey Youth Liaison, Vestry Representative All Saints Episcopal Church (cell) 423-300-8201 e-mail: [email protected]

June 9—Pentecost

Just as God breathed life into Adam and Eve in Genesis 2, at Pentecost Jesus breathed His Spirit into His disci-ples, filling them with new life. It is our tradition, on Pentecost Sunday to decorate our church in red, and to WEAR RED, as a symbol of the joy and fire of the Holy Spirit. Additionally, If you speak a foreign language we would love for you to help read the Gospel in that language, to bring to life how the Holy Spirit speaks to the whole world. This year the Gospel reading for Pentecost is John 14:8-17 [25-27] www.lectionarypage.net/YearC_RCL/Pentecost/CPentDay_RCL.html Please feel free to create your own translation or get it from the internet. Then be at church 30 minutes before the service on Sunday, June 9th so we can rehearse how this will work.

Eucharistic Minister Training

Training and refresher training for new and experienced Eucharistic Ministers

(formerly called chalice bearers) will be held in the sanctuary

between services on Sunday, June 30th.
