The Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) emanatesfrom the vision of the Hon’ble Prime Ministerof India articulated in the address to thenation on 2nd October, 2014.“We must not tolerate the indignity of homeswithout toilets and public spaces littered withgarbage. For ensuring hygiene, wastemanagement and sanitation across thenation, a “Swachh Bharat Mission” will belaunched. This will be our tribute to MahatmaGandhi on his 150th birth anniversary to becelebrated in the year 2019”

Knowledge Sharing Workshop : An IEC Initiative A workshop on knowledge sharing was organised by the MCF at theMunicipal Auditorium on 2nd June 2016 to facilitate exchange of bestpractices that have been adopted by various NGOs and RWAs ofFaridabad. The initiative was led by the Joint Commissioner (Town)Mrs. Ashima Sangwan. During her speech she mentioned about theinitiatives being taken by MCF such as mechanical sweeping of roads,developing a sanitation deployment plan ,dedicated WhatsApp numberfor complaints etc. were shared by her. Six NGOs presented their workduring the workshop. School children performed a short street play ongenerating awareness towards a Swachh Faridabad.

Segregated Collection of Waste begins at AC Nagar, FaridabadHuman Kind Foundation and Unfold Foundation donated a rickshaw toan unemployed women for collecting segregated waste at source inAC Nagar. The Joint Commissioner(Town) handed over the rickshaw tothe women . The segregated waste would be utilized by the NGOs forcomposting and recycling. A few residents have started providing dry andwet waste separately.

Erstwhile Defaced Wall of Faridabad Now showcase SBM messagesThe wall along Metro Road, was defaced with posters and bills. On 5th

June 2016, students ,NGOs and an artist along with MCF officials joinedhands to beautify this wall. Paintings depicting SBM themes –Avoid OpenDefecation, disposing waste at designated locations etc. were drawn.Mr. Anil Mehta SE ,MCF said “this initiative has generated a goodresponse amongst citizens. This would inculcate behaviour changeamongst citizens, as the paintings give a strong message towards theSwachh Bharat Mission.”

Transformation of Garbage Vulnerable LocationsRandom locations that were being used as dumping sites within the citywill be cleaned and beautified by plantation of trees or wall painting. 20sites have been selected by MCF for the first phase. A public notice wasreleased in this regard on 13th June 2016 inviting volunteers to take partin this drive. Work has commenced at a few locations and the remaininglocations would be completed soon. This initiative has created a chaineffect such that industrial associations have also adopted the sametechnique in Sector-6 of Faridabad ,said Mr Jitendra Aggarwal of StyricChem Pvt. Ltd .

Thematic Drive for Cleanliness in ParksAs a part of the fortnightly thematic cleanliness drives, the MunicipalCorporation ,Faridabad conducted drives in park from 1st to 15th June2016.The thematic drive was conducted in the parks of Faridabad.Mr S.Poonia Executive Engineer Horticulture, MCF took an initiative ofinstalling a dry waste shredder in Rose Garden NIT. The output of theshredder can be directly utilized for plants in the park. Grass cutting,removal of weed and pruning of trees was also done during the thematicdrive.

Tree Plantation Drive :Corporate Volunteering under Swachh BharatMissionThe Second fortnight for the month was for corporate volunteeringunder the Swachh Bharat Mission. On 22nd June 2016 Orient Electricplanted 18 trees after cleaning of the area. The team of 10 employeeswas led by Mr. Vipin Kumar .Other members of ManufacturersAssociation of Faridabad in along with Rotary Club of Central Faridabadplanted trees during this fortnight.
