Firm Profile
Philosophy Bearing the twin meanings of “blossom and germinate” in Sanskrit, and “soul” in Arabic, ROHA is founded with the belief that the landscape of a project is instrumental in defining its spirit of the place. We specialize in an investigative design process that brings the site context and the user group together to create a unique solution to every project. Tailored to their sites and their future users needs, our designs are beautiful, functional, ecological, celebratory and memorable. Easy and inviting to use, our open spaces come alive as the place and people meld to become one spirit. As the plants grow and the garden is used, the spirit of place becomes stronger still. Our goal is to invite the user to use the outdoors, promoting connected living with other humans and with nature.
Our work is premised on balanced energy flow. While modernist in nature, we subscribe to no one particular design style. We believe the design must suit and fit its context – both architectural and cultural. Our clients must relate to the design, and its “look” - traditional or contemporary - must appeal to their aesthetic values. We aspire to the maxim that “less in more”, and believe that simplicity of shape, form and materials creates a more memorable and lasting experience. We strive to design multifunctional spaces that appeal to all age groups, and create program elements for all the spaces available on the site. A robust program is the key to the success of any built space, as are design plans that need minimum maintenance and care.
Firm ROHA is a landscape architecture service consultancy based in New Delhi, India. In 2014, its principal owner Aditya Advani was presented an Award of Excellence and a Certificate of Commendation by the Indian Society of Landscape Architects (ISOLA). Prior to starting ROHA, Aditya was a partner at RHAA, an established landscape architectural consultancy based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Aditya joined the the firm after graduating with a Masters in Landscape Architecture from UC Berkeley in 1991, and as a leading designer with a tenure of 24 years in the firm, he authored the design of open spaces of all scales and types – community parks, neighborhood greens, IT parks, city development plans, and colleges campuses.

Our practice follows a boutique design firm model where the focus is on creating custom crafted designs for each project. Our goal is to create a tailored solution that is iconic and unique. We believe that principal level involvement is the key to a successful project. With over 25 years experience in landscape architecture, Aditya Advani is hands on involved in all projects from inception to construction. Helping him is associate Ankur Jajpuria, landscape architect trained from CEPT. Staff strength varies, and the firm is always on the lookout for talented designers to add intellectual weight and design insight to our collaborative studio design process.
ROHA has embraced the principle of sustainable design from its inception. Aditya became a LEED accredited professional in 2003. The firm begins its site investigations with the idea of low maintenance landscape, low water consuming plants, minimal impervious surfacing and maximum rainwater recapture. Shade and sun studies drive the design solution so that people friendly landscapes are created.
ProcessROHA specializes in a collaborative design and visioning process that engages clients and stakeholder groups with the design team. We create a dialogue where the needs and opportunities of the project are explored. Our role on each project changes as the project progresses. We see our input as formative to the built agenda; by identifying the site areas that can be landscaped, by clarifying how circulation wil impact future functioning, and by mapping the sustainabiity plan for the development. We believe a collaborative process ensures that the true spirit of place can be identified and allowed to incarnate in the newly built form. More than the architecture, its setting, created by the landscape around it, is how a place is perceived and remembered.Landscape design often suffers when there is lack of vision around its use and program. We supply the client with user orieted programmatic plans which will allow the landscape to come alive. We search for how a sense of place might be created by bringing the site, the users and the program together.

Shekhar Pawar Landscape Architect
Shekhar strongly believe that great environment gives birth to greater ideas and beliefs. Brought up in the capital, I often visited various tourist attractions of the city during the school trips and family outings. I have spent my adolescence admiring, observing and closely examining the nature and its relationship with the built environment. Inspired by the beauty of the nature, I was determined to involve myself with it someway and so began with the architecture. A landscape architect can bring in a huge difference, especially in urban areas where nature is diminishing. He connects nature with the city and can transform concrete things in a balance way with proper landscaping. Landscape is a very sensitive subject in which one needs to give high attention as one is dealing with live elements like plants, water and trees etc.

Ajit Kumar Draftsman Ajit believes that the role of an architect is not restricted to design of buildings. Rather, he must retrofit the social conditions through his designs by involving sustainable ideas, environmentally responsive building solutions, and crime preventive “positive spaces”. A well-made building is one where the architect has been able to perceive the spatial form from the user’s perspective, keeping comfort, functionality and emotional wellbeing as aspiration

WORLDMARK-AEROCITYNew Delhi
The landscape of this is 3.5 acre open space is enclosed by the Worldmark towers in Aerocity, New Delhi. Bharti Land’s headquarters is based here. Comprising of three high rise towers, the planned development accommodates office space, retail space and food facilities.
The buildings are arranged around a central piazza that gives a clear front door address to each building. Buses and taxi drop offs occur at the edges of this space. Essentially a place making project, lots of shade, green and seating is added to the piazza creating places for celebrations, festivals and el fresco dining.
Special elements such as wifi pods, gathering seat walls, projection screens, and water features all create a place where retail and business come together to create a world class walking piazza that is perfect for business, quality retail, and a celebration of the human spirit. The central road within GMR land is redesigned to become a grand arrival plaza that is a signature for this iconic development.
Krishi BhavanOdisha, India
Blessed with abundant rain but all in two months of the year, the state of Odisha suffers from a variety of agricultural issues. The design is a demonstration garden that highlights the use of irrigation channels, rainwater harvesting, soil remediation and organic agricultural practices to improve crop yields.
The design features educational art components and in intensive roof garden. Roha is working on the landscape design of this new Krishi Bhawan in Bhubneshwar in collaboration with Lotus Architects.
ROYAL ENFIELDGoa, India
The outlet for Royal Enfield Goa is located on the road to Baga Beach. While redesigning an existing site with a small traditional house and an outdoor Italian restaurant, the client wished to keep the original feel and ambiance of the place.
The architects Studio Lotus introduced two large metal and glass buildings around the original villa, keeping intact much of the courtyard and its lush plantings. More plants were added to make the site vibrant and tropical. Rainwater was captured and redirected to the nearby river and majority of the heavily wooded trees on the edges were retained to create an insert that seems like it has always been there. The central courtyard is an extended part of the rebuilt restaurant and the locus of all activity.
The landscape of this modern hotel is designed to support multiple functions. Using a group of several spaces that connect to each other visually, an abundance of green and cooling lushness is created for the weary traveller.
A pool deck with palms and an infinity pool looks into the central courtyard which is designed to host small group functions and parties as well as the morning breakfast and the evening bar. A large reflecting pool connects the courtyard to the arrival lobby. The office terrace is designed a wooden perch that overlooks the whole facility and provides a private open space for the company’s executives.
ALOFT HOTEL, AEROCITYNew Delhi, India
HAUS KHAS ROOFTOPNew Delhi
The rooftop of this South Delhi flat was a lost and wasted space, dominated by a large water tank. Lovers of gardens and nature, the family was keen to have a proper garden. The roof was redesigned to create a garden studio apartment for the grown son, so he could have his own pad.
The rest of the roof was grassed, and a large planter was created to grow a luxurious garden. A trellis and pond were built to provide shade and a sense of relief from the urban heat
The rooftop was transformed from a lost space into a precious amenity for its users that can be used in small groups or for large parties.
Set in a busy residential neighbourhood of Delhi, the house designed by Studio Lotus, looks inward for inspiration. The design intent of this multilevel garden is to create a forest in the middle of crowded city. With a love nature and plants, the client sought a design that has trees popping out of the building. Large planters were created on different levels to support trees and shrubs. An informal, curvy geometry is used to convey the fluidity of nature.
On the rooftop, lawn and lush tropical plantings, and a historical Kerala verandah are used to transport the user to a different reality. Strategically placed planters screen off the ugliness of the surrounding broken roofs, plastic water tanks and cell towers.
AIYAR RESIDENCENew Delhi, India
The Bharti headquarters near Qutb where remade to become a high end fashion retail site. The building facades were redone by Studio Lotus and the site plan was revised by Roha to be able to create a modern and clean setting for two stores for Tarun Tahiliani and Anita Dongre. Previously an office complex with multiple levels, hidden front doors, and a wide driveway but virtually no parking, the site plan was reworked to create a plaza like feel with ample parking.
The awkward angle of the building alignment was made into an asset and a striped geometry used to create crisp, modern, pin striped scheme that brings the whole site together. Left over wasted spaces have been redone to become gathering lawns for parties and fashion shows, and the chaotic nature of the site has been reset with an order that feels quiet yet present.
MEHRAULI MULTI DESIGN MALLNew Delhi
SUNSHINE - ORGANIC INDIALucknow, U.P.
The landscape design of the Organic India tea factory is a showcase of the horticultural practices of this model factory that exports organic tulsi tea and ayurvedic herbs to the whole world. Designed according to vastu principles, this factory site has been laid out to run efficiently and in a positive cycle that will benefit both the business and its workforce. There are gardens for enjoyment that also grow and show the plants used in the factory products, a walking labyrinth for individual meditation, a gathering stage with the Shriyantra mandala where group yoga and celebrations can occur.
This will be LEED Gold project with all site planning being undertaken to maximize softscape, passively shade all the west and south side of buildings, gather and recharge storm water and also create a forest of native trees on the edges.ative trees have been used. This landscape will reach maturity in 15 years, and will feel full and established in 5 years.
MLDL HAPPINEST HOUSINGPalghar, India
The Phase 1 Concept plan is an initial 8.9 acre development of the overall 20.7 acres Master plan for housing at Happinest Palghar. Comprising of twelve housing blocks and one commercial block, the planned development has 860 units that house 3440 inhabitants. It accommodates 80 cars and 272 two wheelers on surface parking. In addition 26 carparking and 35 two wheeler parking for the commercial block is shown. Finally, 8 car spots for short term visitor parking, has be provided near the gate
Each building block is arranged around a central courtyard that gives a clear sense of place to the clusters. Buses and taxi drop offs occur at the front edge of the site on the main road. Surface parking and bike parking is kept to the periphery of the landscaped zone. The landscape concept of the housing can be understood as “A Cityscape of Shaded Avenues and Courts”. The green courtyards act as outdoor living spaces that connect to each other seamlessly, enlarging the green experience, and subdivide the space into multiple rooms that can be used for play, gatherings, sports and celebrations. Specimen trees interspersed in the spaces showcase the horticultrual heritage of India.
The landscape has been designed to be rugged and easy to maintain. Lawn and self maintaining shrubs (that need little pruning and fertilizing) along with native trees have been used. This landscape will reach maturity in 15 years, and will feel full and established in 5 years.
The IREO ITSEZ is a phased development plan for 42.63 acres in IREO CITY Gurgaon. Comprising of three high rise towers and four low rise office buildings, and an incubation center, the planned development accommodates 4.64 million sq. ft. of office space. 9700 number of cars are accommodated in a three levels of underground parking.
The work scope starts from the site’s opportunities and constraints, the planning alternatives that were studied to achieve the master plan, and the circulation planning needed to accomplish this high density development. With two distinct north south zones, the plan proposes a North South “couplet” – essentially an elongated oval with one way traffic flowing around it – that will connect the site. Buildings are arranged around this couplet and given a clear front door address. Buses and taxi drop offs occur at the edges of this space. Surface parking and bike parking is kept to the periphery of the buildings.
The plan has three main spaces that will give it landscape relief – a main gathering lawn, central gardens and an associated walking circuit, and a sports court area. The walking circuit is designed to connect all the buildings to the incubation center which is envisaged as a restaurant and recreation building.
