The BMPA Clothing Closet! What is the clothing closet you say? The Uniform
Clothing Closet began two years ago when a uniform
policy was implemented at the West Hills S.T.E.M.
Academy. It was prompted by the need for quality
clothing at an affordable price. It developed into a
BMPA fundraiser as well. Now we have grown from
two bins of clothing to a room full of clothing with
more than 300 pieces.
If you need clothing at a very affordable price,
contact the BMPA clothing closet.
Please call Sharon Baker at

to set up a shopping appointment.

National Dairy Month
June is National Dairy Month. Foods high in calcium like low-fat or skim
milk, yogurt and cheese contain 9 essential nutrients. They not only build
stronger bones but may also help protect you from high blood pressure,
osteoporosis and certain cancers. So dive into summer with nutrient-rich
dairy foods!
Recipe of the Month: Strawberry Frozen-Yogurt Squares
1 cup crunchy wheat and barley cereal 3 cups fat-free strawberry yogurt 1 (10-ounce) bag frozen unsweetened strawberries (about 2 1/2 cups) 1 cup fat-free sweetened condensed milk 1 cup light or fat-free whipped topping (optional)
Line an 8x8-inch baking pan with foil. Sprinkle cereal evenly on the bottom
of the pan; set aside.
Place yogurt, strawberries and condensed milk in a blender; cover and
blend until smooth. Pour the mixture over top of cereal, gently smoothing
yogurt mixture to edges of pan. Cover with foil (or plastic wrap) and freeze
for 8 hours or until firm. Use edges of foil to loosen and remove from pan;
let recipe thaw for 5 to 10 minutes. Cut into squares, top with whipped top-
ping, if desired, and serve. April STUDENTS of the Month

7th Grade ROV Challenge Ten students from West Hills STEM 7th grade competed in the annual SeaPerch ROV challenge last weekend at Olympic High
School. In teams of two they competed against other students from school districts in the region to drive Remotely Operated Ve-
hicles through several complex challenges at the bottom of the pool. All students had to build their own ROV’s in their 7th Grade
STEM class, with the support of their classroom teachers, West Sound Technical High School, and PSNS volunteers. They were
taught how to build the frames out of pvc pipe, waterproof their motor systems, and solder all electrical components. The finished
product was a neutrally buoyant sub marine vehicle they controlled using a remote connected to the ROV with a 40’ teth-
er. Teams of students were selected by their teachers Elizabeth Forbes and Hannah Meucci based on their engineering, teamwork
and vehicle operation skills. These teams competed in 3 pool challenges and gave a technical presentation to the judges. Their
challenges included opening an underwater treasure chest, navigating an obstacle course and a head-to-head race to collect sam-
ples from the bottom of the pool. Jennifer Nham, Karma Piercy, Nick Smidt, Camden Short, Mikaela Madlangbayan, Tamaki
Farman, Karalee James, Mason Greene, Michael Odoms and Francis Viray all were amazing participants representing West Hills
STEM. A special judges award was given to Francis Viray and Michael Odoms for their Teamwork in Overcoming Challenges
during the competition. It was STEM education in action and it was Awesome!
