W hether you love them or hate them, zoos are one of the only ways for children to see wild animals. In this month’s issue children get to learn about animal welfare and protection by spending the day following Zahra the zookeeper around his zoo (pages 12–17). There’s also a great set of ‘Tell me why!’ cards to consolidate their animal knowledge (18–19). Subscribers can then let children put their new skills to the test by running our interactive zoo while Zahra is on holiday. It’s not as easy as it sounds! If that’s not enough, we’ve also got a new series starting called ‘Fun with felt’ (40–41). This month Jane Bower shows you how to make animal finger puppets and badges – a sure hit in the classroom! With the summer supposedly just starting (but who can tell with the British weather?) we’ve created a fun weather-related board game to teach children about the changing seasons (49). Finally, Sue Palmer will be in our online forum on 25 May chatting about toxic childhood, 21st century boys, the media and the Rose Review. So do log on and ask her a question.
