Today Readings:
Isaiah 6:1-8 1In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord
seated on a throne, high and exalted, and the
train of his robe filled the temple. 2Above him
were seraphs, each with six wings: With two
wings they covered their faces, with two they
covered their feet, and with two they were fly-
ing. 3And they were calling to one another:
“Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty; the whole
earth is full of his glory.” 4At the sound of their
voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and
the temple was filled with smoke. 5“Woe to me!”
I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean
lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips,
and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Al-
mighty.” 6Then one of the seraphs flew to me
with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken
with tongs from the altar. 7With it he touched
my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your
lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin
atoned for.” 8Then I heard the voice of the Lord
saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for
us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”
Acts 2:14, 22-36 14Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his
voice and addressed the crowd: “Fellow Jews
and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me ex-
plain this to you; listen carefully to what I say.
22“Men of Israel, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth
was a man accredited by God to you by mira-
cles, wonders and signs, which God did among
you through him, as you yourselves know. 23This
man was handed over to you by God‟s set pur-
pose and foreknowledge; and you, with the
help of wicked men, put him to death by nail-
ing him to the cross. 24But God raised him from
the dead, freeing him from the agony of death,
because it was impossible for death to keep its
hold on him. 25David said about him: “„I saw the
Lord always before me. Because he is at my
right hand, I will not be shaken. 26Therefore my
heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body
also will live in hope, 27because you will not
abandon me to the grave, nor will you let your
Holy One see decay. 28You have made known
to me the paths of life; you will fill me with joy in
your presence.‟ 29“Brothers, I can tell you confi-
dently that the patriarch David died and was
buried, and his tomb is here to this day. 30But he
was a prophet and knew that God had prom-
ised him on oath that he would place one of his
descendants on his throne. 31Seeing what was
ahead, he spoke of the resurrection of the
Christ, that he was not abandoned to the
grave, nor did his body see decay. 32God has
raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses
of the fact. 33Exalted to the right hand of God,
he has received from the Father the promised
Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now
see and hear. 34 For David did not ascend to
heaven, and yet he said, “„The Lord said to my
Lord: “Sit at my right hand 35until I make your
enemies a footstool for your feet.”‟ 36“Therefore
let all Israel be assured of this: God has made
this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and
Christ.”
Matthew 28:16-20 16Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to
the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17When they saw him, they worshiped him; but
some doubted. 18Then Jesus came to them and
said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has
been given to me. 19Therefore go and make
disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the
name of the Father and of the Son and of the
Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey every-
thing I have commanded you. And surely I am
with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Confession: The celebration of Holy Communion is a very special time for the Christian community. We believe it is important to know what the Bible teaches about the Lord’s Supper and what it is we, by faith, truly receive. The benefits are pointed out by the words: “Given and shed for you for the forgiveness of sins.” These words assure us that in the Sacrament we receive, by faith, forgiveness of sins, life, and salvation. “For where there is forgiveness of sins, there is also life and salvation.” Believing that in the Sacrament, Jesus Christ bestows upon us His true body and blood for the forgiveness of sin, (Matthew 26:28), and assuring us of eternal life, (John 6:54-56) we acknowledge and accept our responsibility to live for Him. If you are visiting and wish to receive Holy Communion and share faith in Jesus truly present here, we welcome you. If you are uncertain or have a different confession, we invite you to consult 1 Corinthians 11:23-29 and speak to the Pastor or an Elder to learn more about
this Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper.
