The Solemnity of Corpus Christi

PASTOR’S CORNER "The social marginality of the child whom Jesus calls into the midst of the disciples [Mt 18:1-5] evokes a chief symbolic component of Jesus' own Passion and death: His ostracism and abandonment by the rest of men. Not only is Jesus during His earthly sojourn a King and Lord who 'has nowhere to lay His head' (Mt 8:20), but the fact that His crucifixion will take place outside Jerusalem, beyond the sacred walls of the Holy City, is one of the prophetic signs of His identity as Suffering Messiah, the scapeboat for all the sins of humanity that He will willingly allow to be driven into His head with each thorn of the crown (Mt 27:29)... It is always the love practiced by the marginalized that redeems the arrogance of those at the center. God loves the humility that positions itself at the outer edge of things. That is where God's scrutinizing glance instinctively goes when He searches for a just one." - Erasmo Leiva-Merikikas
