MEXICO CITY(AFP) -China's President Hu Jintaoexpressed concern yesterdayover Europe's debt crisis andsaid the G20 world economicpowers should work togetherto reassure jittery markets.

Hu said that Europe's debtcrisis was "an issue of generalconcern" and that the otherG20 members should "encou -

"In the current world eco-nomic environment, the G20members should stick to-gether in difficult times andpursue win-win cooperation,"Hu said, according to a trans-lation of the interview by theofficial Chinese news agencyXinhua.

"In Los Cabos, I look for-ward to exploring with leadersof other G20 members waysto promote world economicstability, recovery andgrowth," he added.

A first official estimate saidthe conservative New Democ-racy party won the election andwill be able to form a pro-bailout majority with the so-cialist PASOK party.

But even New Democracychief Antonis Samaras hascalled for the terms of thebailout deal to be revised.

Westerwelle, who spoke be-fore pro-bailout parties tookthe lead, said increased flexi-bility was justified by the delaycaused by the political paraly-sis the country had experi-enced.

BERLIN (AFP) - Germany isready to discuss giving Greecemore time to attain the objec-tives under its EU-IMF bailoutagreement, German ForeignMinister Guido Westerwellesaid yesterday.

"We're not going to sendchecks to Europe. We're notgoing to bail out the Europeanbanks. We're going to bepoised here to support oureconomy," Romney told CBStelevision's "Face the Nation"program.

He expressed hope that "re-gardless of what happens inEurope, that our banking sec-tor is able to weather thestorm," noting that US banksare on a "much stronger basis"than during the last crisis.

sometimes it doesn't. At thestart it went well, then after-wards it didn't.

"We're just disappointed. Itwasn't a good game at alltoday. I'm responsible for thatand I'm disappointed."

Van Marwijk also defendedhis decision to move play-maker Wesley Sneijder to theleft flank in order to accom-modate Huntelaar up front, with Robin van Persie drop-ping deeper into Sneijder'susual, central role.

Asked to explain the think-ing behind the decision, vanMarwijk replied: "BecauseRobin van Persie is also one ofthe best number 10s in theworld.

"We have very good attack-ing players and we have tomake choices based on that.Sneijder has played on the leftin Italy as well this season."

Van Marwijk pinpointed amisplaced back-pass by right-back Gregory van der Wiel inthe first half, which presentedHelder Postinga with a clearsight of goal, as the moment"uncertainty" set in among hisback four.

"After the back-pass fromGregory (when Holland led 1-0), there was a lot of uncer-tainty in the team," he said athis post-game press confer-ence.

"I don't really know whathappened. It didn't happen inthe first game (a 1-0 loss toDenmark). We had lots ofchances to turn the game inour favour but due to that lossagainst Denmark, that's wherethe uncertainty started."

Van Marwijk also defendedhis attempts to rejuvenate aside that finished runners-up to

The Netherlands lost 2-1 toPortugal at Kharkiv's MetalistStadium in their final Group Bgame, after a CristianoRonaldo brace cancelled outRafael van der Vaart's earlyopener for the Dutch.

It left Holland without a sin-gle point after earlier losses toDenmark and Germany, andthe Germans' 2-1 win overDenmark in the other finalpool game meant van Mar-wijk's side would not havequalified even if they had won.

Van Marwijk had bolsteredhis team's attacking resourcesby introducing both van derVaart and Klaas-Jan Huntelaarto his starting XI, and he saidit was a risk that he had no op-tion but to take.
