Obituaries Cantrell Kenneth Roy Cantrell Jan 14, 1941 - June 9, 2020 Kenneth Roy Cantrell,79, of Kempner, TX, passed away on June 9, 2020, in Austin, TX. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 13, 2020, at Scott’s Fu- neral Home of Copperas Cove with Pastor Sam Shurtleff of Lampasas officiating. Burial will follow at Copperas Cove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM on Friday, June 12, 2020, at the funeral home. Kenney was preceded in death by his father, Abner Owen Cantrell; mother, Ber - tha Mizell Cantrell; two broth- ers, Gary Cantrell, Richard Cantrell; son, Robert Owen Cantrell; and his daughter, Kimberly Ann Cantrell. Our Community Salutes is a national, non-profit orga- nization helping communi- ties recognize, honor and support high school seniors who plan to enlist into the U.S. Armed Services after graduation. The organization honored Copperas Cove’s military graduates at Lea Ledger Auditorium on Mon- day. Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army Jean Shine started the local area chapter and serves as the or- ganization’s president. “These young men and women step up to serve their country. They sign up know- ing they may be putting their selves in harm’s way,” Shine said. “Only 29 percent of high school students qualify to serve in Americans armed forces, only one percent of the American public serve their country. These stu- dents and their parents have earned our respect. The library closed to the public on March 18, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The li - brary reopened for curbside service and limited computer usage last month, but the rest of the library remained closed to the public. On Monday, the library will open to a limited amount of no more than 50 patrons at a time. Masks will be required for all patrons, except for chil - dren under 10 or those with a doctor’s note. There will be a greeter at the door to keep count of those entering the library and encourage hand- washing and mask wearing. The Friends of the Library will have masks available for purchase for those who do not have their own mask. Patrons will be encour- aged to select their items, check out and move along to keep the traffic flow going and to allow others in the building. The Friends of the Li- brary book sale will still be available in the Reading Room. The Circulation and Ref- erence desks will have plexi - glass sneeze guards in place for additional protection or library staff and volunteers. There will be no toys in the children’s area and no games in the teen zone. All books and other items will be quarantined for 24 hours before being re- leased back into the catalog, in accordance with CDC guide- lines on the life of the virus on paper materials. The library will con- tinue to offer curbside service for those who do not wish to come inside. Use of the computers will remain the same, with 14 well-separated stations. Small group gatherings will be allowed in the meeting room, with a maximum ca- pacity of 37 people allowed. Masks will be required for people entering the building and the meeting room and people will be encouraged to maintain social distancing while in the meeting room. The library will move forward with its Summer Reading Program, but there will not be large shows as in previous years. Instead, the children will be divided into smaller groups. The theme this year is “Imagine Your Story” and the program will run June 16 through August 11, 2020. All programs are provided at no cost and will be available in the library’s meeting room- with a maximum of 37 peo- ple- and online. Pre-registration is re- quired for the Summer Read- ing Program. The library will also host Hero Camp in addition to the Summer Reading Program. This will allow more active participation from older kids. Participants will meet every Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for activities such as sword-fighting, stories, crafts and more. This is for youth ages 11 to 15. The Copperas Cove Pub-lic Library will be implement-ing Phase Two of reopening on Monday, June 15.
