“Charity is the bond of unity”

- St. Joseph Marello

National eGiving Day Challenge

Did you know that June 21 - the first day of summer - is National eGiving Day?

St. Joseph Marello parishioners can take particular joy in this celebration, as the response to eGiving in our church has been wonderful.

To build on this success, I am setting a National eGiving Day Challenge. My goal is for St. Joseph Marello families to put envelopes on a permanent summer vacation and make the switch to eGiving. This is especially important in the summer months, when many families may be out of town some weekends and St. Joseph Marello does not receive their envelopes. It’s easy for people to forget to catch up once they’re back, and our weekly offertory can fluctuate as a result – making it harder to predict how much we will have to sustain our year-round ministries.

The more families who welcome the beginning of summer by taking this National eGiving Day Challenge, the more consistency and predictable our offertory will be month after month – and this will help us do even more to spread Christ’s love throughout the community.

Being part of this challenge is simple: Visit www.faithdirect.net and use our church code: CA748.

Thank you for your continued support of our parish family with your time and talents as well as treasure!

God Bless You,Fr. Phil

I want to thank our parishioners who volunteered and provided their talents and gifts to the Children’s Liturgy ministry. We have been able to expand the Children’s Liturgy from one Sunday a month (following the 10:30 am Mass) to each Sunday during the school year. As a reminder Children’s Liturgy will break for the summer and will resume the first week in September.

Lighthouse Book of the Week:Everything You Ever Wanted to

Know About HeavenPeter Kreeft provides a look at the nature of Heaven that offers all readers a refreshingly clear, theologically sound, and always fascinating glimpse of that “undiscovered country.” Kreeft’s engaging and informative account thoughtfully answers such intriguing questions as:- How can we know what Heaven is like? - Will we all be equal in Heaven? - What will we do in Heaven? Kreeft combines solid scholarship with a lively ability to communicate his findings.

1. June 16. ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI - The Reformer. Christ told Francis to “Rebuild my Church”. The radical simplicity of St. Francis’ life demonstrates how the foundations of true and lasting reform are to be built on the solid rock that is the witness of the saints.

2. June 23. ST. THOMAS AQUINAS - The Theologian. The relationship of faith and reason is often challenged today. St. Thomas Aquinas anticipated that question centuries ago. In his life he dem-onstrates that to believe is to think and that the life of the mind is integral to life in Christ.

3. June 30. ST. CATHERINE OF SIENA - The Mystic. St. Catherine of Siena was a mystic, wonderworker, and confidant to popes and kings. She exemplifies the power of a life lived in relation-ship with Jesus and provides an example of faith that changes the culture.

4. July 7. BL. JOHN HENRY NEWMAN - The Convert. John Henry Newman came into the Church as a convert and used his prodigious intellectual gifts to engage the assaults of a secular age.

5. July 14. G.K. CHESTERTON - The Evangelist. G.K. Chesterton shows that the fundamental disposition of effective evangelism is joy, and life in Christ is a day-to-day encounter with an abundant and surprising offer of grace..

6. July 21. MICHELANGELO - The Artist. Michelangelo serves as the representative of the crea-tive potential engendered by the Catholic Faith. He demonstrates that beauty is a route of access to God.
