- Wilfred T. Grenfell

To our Dedicated Staff and Tireless Volunteers,

You have made us all so very proud. As a member of this Annual Conference, everywhere I turned, pastors and laity from the region were constantly singing your praises!

"Excellent food, spectacular music, smiling greeters, flexible and willing staff members, outstanding hospitality...." The list of praises and compliments went on and on, from the delegates who live way out in the country and had come to the "big city," to our Bishop himself. You sent a clear message --Jackson First UMC has the spiritual gift of hospitality!

Truly, you have set a standard which will be hard for others to measure up to. Thank you for all your efforts. May you know that you have done something very "worthwhile" for the cause of Christ.

Peace,

Pastor Dan

Andrews Chapel New DirectionAt a recent church council meeting, the recommendation of the Andrews Chapel two-year study committee/task force was accepted and passed unanimously. The highlights of that report are as follows:

• That the church property (historic sanctuary, fellowship hall and parsonage) be retained for the long-term with an emphasis on historical preservation and improvement of the building and grounds of Andrews Chapel.

• The cemetery be split off via legal survey and deeded to a cemetery association to be formed as a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. Funds which we have held in trust related to the cemetery will be handed over to this new association for perpetual upkeep.

• We will incur no long-term indebtedness on the property. On-going improvement efforts will be funded by those interested in preserving Andrews Chapel for the future.

• Effective July, 2015, we will initiate two worship services per month at Andrews Chapel which will not compete (in terms of scheduled times) with services at the main campus.

New Worship ScheduleAndrews ChapelJuly 12 and 26

5:30 p.m.

• Special worship services will continue to be held at the facility for times such as: Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Easter and perhaps Fourth of July (2016 would be the earliest possible for this particular service).

• An ecumenical, community-based, high-quality Bible study will be offered beginning in August 2015 on a weeknight.

• A core leadership group of six to eight persons will be formed to give oversight and direction for future efforts to carry out new and dynamic ministries in the Huntersville community.

• Additionally, the facility will be made available for the following: • Affordable and faith-based wedding chapel • Youth hostel/housing for traveling groups • Backyard BBQ’s, cook-outs and fellowship opportunities • Emergency housing/shelter for those in need • Easter Egg Hunts and festivals • Boy Scout and Girl Scout activities • Retreat and Spiritual Formation Center for small groups

Please continue to pray for Andrews Chapel and the community of Huntersville as we seek to be faithful to God’s will in seeking a renewal of missional purpose for this historic facility.
