The Holy Father speaks… The Spirit changes hearts. He overcomes all resistance. To those content with half measures he inspires whole-hearted generosity. He opens hearts that are closed. He impels the comfortable to go out and serve. He drives the self-satisfied to set out in new directions. He makes the lukewarm thrill to new dreams.

The Spirit frees hearts chained by fear. How does he do this? By renewing our hearts, by pardoning sinners. Here is the great change: from guilty he makes us righteous and thus changes everything. From slaves of sin we become free, from servants we become beloved children, from worthless worthy, from disillusioned filled with hope. By the working of the Holy Spirit, joy is reborn and peace blossoms in our hearts.

Holy Spirit, violent wind of God, blow upon us, blow into our hearts and make us breathe forth the tenderness of the Father! Blow upon the Church and impel her to the ends of the earth, so that, brought by you, she may bring nothing other than you. Blow upon our world the soothing warmth of peace and the refreshing cool of hope. Come Holy Spirit, change us within and renew the face of the earth. Amen.

Confirmation Gift of Knowledge This gi is one of the most confusing and o en misunderstood. The word “fear” is what throws many people off. Are we supposed to be afraid of the Lord? Not at all! Our rela onship with the Lord is based on love, not fear. What this gi means is that we should fear the horror of sin and how sin separates us from the Lord. We should fear living, speaking, or ac ng in any way that offends the Lord. St. Thomas Aquinas explained it best when he said “this gi is a "filial fear," like a child's fear of offending his father, rather than a "servile fear," that is, a fear of punishment. This gi is commonly referred to as Wonder and Awe. It takes me to wonder and be amazed. It takes me to see God’s beauty around you. It takes me to see God’s beauty in a blade of grass, a baby’s hand, a loved one’s face. When was the last me you simply stood back in awe of something beau ful and said, Wow!” We should live in wonder and awe of God’s perfec on and fear ever hur ng Him.

Reflec on: Today, I will take no ce of something of beauty in my life — a place, a person, a work of art — and look for the hand of God.

Prayer: God of Wonder and Awe, how wonderful the work of your hands, how awesome your ways. May your Holy Spirit of Wonder and Awe enable us to see your beauty in each person we meet.

So can you now answer the million dollar question…

“Name the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit”

Are You Using Your Gifts?

These seven gifts were given to us by the Holy Spirit the day we stood before the altar to be confirmed. Of all the gifts we received that day, these seven are the greatest of them all. Unlike material gifts, these gifts are meant to last a lifetime; they never go out of style, they never tarnish, break, or need to be replaced. It’s up to us to put them to good use, and not just box them up and put them on the proverbial shelf.

Ask yourself: How have you been using these gifts of the Holy Spirit? Are you using them to your fullest potential? How have these gifts strengthened your relationship with God? “It is evident from its celebration that the effect of the sacrament of Confirmation is the special outpouring of the Holy Spirit as once granted to the apostles on the day of Pentecost” (CCC 1302).

Therefore, the fullness of the Spirit given to us at Baptism and again at Confirmation as it was

given to the apostles on the day of Pentecost, has not only made us children of God, but also disciples, with the power to profess faith in Christ publicly, and the special strength of the Holy Spirit to spread and defend the faith by word and action, to confess the name of Christ,

boldly, and never to be ashamed of the Cross.
