It has been eight weeks since ‘Learning from

    Home’ commenced after COVID-19 restrictions.

Monday 25 May was a special day as we

celebrated WCS students returning to school.

All the staff have been looking forward to

    seeing happy, smiling faces.

    Welcome back to WCS!

A big welcome back to students who have commenced their first week of full-time education since

March. As you all know, this year has been a very different year with the Covid-19 pandemic

sweeping the world. We have been luckier than most countries in that Australia has been able

to control and contain the virus in a short period of time.

However, we must not rest on our laurels and think that this could not happen in Warren. Students

have abided by the procedures we have put in place in terms of distancing and hygiene. I would

also like to thank parents and caregivers for adhering to government advice in terms of when

and how often you should have been sending your kids to school.

All remote learning has now ceased. Full-time and traditional face-to-face learning has now recom-

menced. This is basically all we are doing at the moment. As government restrictions hopefully

ease in the coming months, the school will be able to restart all extra-curricular activities, inter-

school activities, assemblies and work experience programs. In the unlikely event there was a

Covid-19 event at WCS, we are well prepared with the Department of Health to manage this situa-

tion. If you child is unwell, please keep them at home. All students should now be back at school

unless they are unable to return to school due to an ongoing medical condition.

A reminder that no parents should be onsite other than at the front office – following social distanc-

ing and the red markers on the floor. All parents and caregivers should be following social distanc-

ing guidelines whilst dropping your child at school or picking them up.

From the Deputy Principal School has returned for students.

Parents are required to provide the school (within 7 days) an explanation for absences. This can be

a phone call to the front office or written note to the classroom teacher.

    Explanations for absences can be….

    Justified absences…

    • Unavoidable medical or dental appointments (preferably these should be made after school or

    during school holidays)

    • Required to attend an exceptional or urgent family circumstance (such as a funeral)

    • Sick, or has an infectious disease

Unjustified absences… these are not acceptable reasons for your student to be absent or to

    leave school early.

    • Slept in

    • Running late

    • Haircut

    • Shopping

    • Minding younger siblings

    • Birthday

    • Working or doing jobs for parents

We ask that you support the school and send your student to school every day and on-time.

Regular attendance makes learning easier and avoids gaps in the learning. It helps your child build

and maintain friendships. Regular attendance will help your child succeed in later life.

    WATER BOTTLES

Due to certain restrictions still in place, please ensure your child

has a drink bottle that they are able to refill. Our bubblers are

currently not allowed to be used and will be out of bounds until

further notice from the Department of Education and NSW Health.

Students can refill their water bottles from designated taps at

    school.

    SCHOOL GROUNDS

Parents are reminded that they are not permitted to visit the

classrooms. You are still able to visit the School Office if neces-

sary. If your children are leaving early for appointments, please

contact the office to arrange for your child/ren to be ready for

    collection from the Office.

At Warren Central School we have a

    great innovation called Breakfast Club

every morning. Breakfast club is for

students K-12 who miss out on a

healthy breakfast; they can go down

to the old uniform room in the

    secondary area for a nutritious

    breakfast.

The Breakfast Club is organised by

Miss Wilson. The Breakfast Club runs

    because studies show that students

that eat a healthy breakfast and are

not hungry are more focused in class

    and learn more effectively.

Breakfast Club starts back up on

    Monday 1 June 2020.

Welcome back to all students and families! It has been wonderful to see all the smiling, happy faces on our grounds once again. The sound of

laughter, chatter, balls bouncing and children playing is something that we have missed very much, and we are delighted to be back to a greater sense of ‘normal’.

On behalf of the primary staff, we would like to congratulate all of our parents, carers, aunties, uncles and grandparents for the enormous effort and sacrifices you have all made to

accommodate the educational needs of your children during the Covid19 shutdown. The work that has been sent back to us made us all proud to have such clever and studious children (and tutors!) as part of our school community. We

would also like to congratulate all primary teachers and SASS staff who put in an enormous effort to develop learning packs, overcome technology challenges, and adopt a

‘think outside the box’ approach to ensure our students were provided with work that was tailored and meaningful to their learning. It was certainly a team effort by all members of our school community, which everyone should be

very proud of. Uniform As the weather is now cooling down, it is

important that all school clothing, especially jumpers, are clearly named. Full winter uniform MUST be worn during Terms 2 and 3. Boys may wear long grey pants and girls can wear school

tartan pants or their school skirt with black stockings. Non-school jumpers and tracksuit pants are not permitted. What’s on?

As we kick into the post Covid19 activities, we are gradually being able to plan a few things for later in the year. At this stage, the Year 3/4 excursion to ‘Magic

Beach’ performance will go ahead as planned on the 9 September 2020. The K-2 excursion to ‘The Gruffalo’s Child’ has been rescheduled for Tuesday 13 October 2020.

The Year 5/6 excursion is currently being

arranged and information will be provided to the relevant families soon so that payment towards the cost of this excursion can be made. Given the current circumstances, please be

aware that the NSW Department of Education may direct schools to suspend excursions. In regards to refunds in the event of cancellation by the school, an outline of our refund policy will be attached to the permission note for the

particular excursion or activity. New equipment Late last term, we received new aluminium lunch

tables for the primary eating area through Consolidated School Funds. Our lunch tables are now all aluminium and easier to clean than the old wooden tables. The children are very happy to be able to fit more friends on their

tables, while others are happy to have more room to spread out! We were surprised at the arrival of new student desks and chairs last week. Through a furniture

rollout scheme by the Department’s North Western Asset Management Unit, we applied for a variety of different items and were lucky enough to

receive this furniture for the older students in Marthaguy block. Everyone is enjoying the new, fresh additions to our 4/5 and 5/6 classrooms.

New sports equipment has also been purchased through the Sporting Schools grant. This grant enabled our students to participate in weekly

gymnastics sessions with qualified coaches from Ignite Gymnastics in Dubbo in Term 1. We were also able to purchase new skipping ropes, hoops, foot pods and a balance beam for our

students to use during HPE and lunch times. We are very keen to use our new equipment as we have not had the opportunity yet due to Covid19 lockdown!

The library has been very busy with students back fulltime, borrowing and enjoying and engaging

with all our beautiful books and resources we have in our library. This week, the library was involved

with two significant events happening in our school.

On Tuesday it was National Sorry Day, followed up by Reconciliation Week. All classes had the

opportunity to engage with some poignant stories and activities, both in class and in the library.

Students understanding of this significant event in Australia’s history was greatly increased through

the power of some amazing picture books we have in our library.

On Wednesday students in K-6 joined in with the rest of Australia and celebrated National

Simultaneous Story Time. The book selected for this year was ‘Whitney and Britney, Chicken Divas’

by Lucinda Gifford. Students and teachers were engaged in various literacy and craft activities to

    help celebrate this delightful book.

Year 12 is a big year for many students and having to isolate from teachers, peers and other support systems during

these final months has not been easy. We have all been fortunate enough to have online classes to keep us focused

and up to date. Online classes and homeschooling is a very new experience for many of us and can be difficult at

times, although with such a supportive school and dedicated teachers it has made the whole experience a whole lot

easier. We are a very privileged year 12 group with all the support we have received from Warren Central School.
