Awards Available for our Early Head Start and First Things First Families The Utah Head Start Association will be awarding the Father of the Year and Lil’ Charmer awards at their annual state conference in November. Winners receive a free trip to the conference and a $100 cash prize. To make it doubly sweet, TLC will pay the winner from our program an additional $100 for grabbing the prize at the local level. Here’s all ya gotta do: Father of the Year 1. Must be a father, father figure or male role model for an EHS child enrolled between September 2013 - August 2014. 2. Nominee must model increased educational involvement and personal responsibility in the lives of his own children as well as improved personal development resulting from his Head Start experience. Application: On a separate sheet, please type your answers to the following questions. The maximum point value for each question is indicated in parentheses. Judges will rate specific, no subjective, information. 1. (20 points) Volunteering: Describe the ways you volunteered or worked in the TLC - EHS program. 2. (20 points) Participation: Describe the Early Head Start activities in which you participated with your child or children. 3. (30 points) Personal Statement: Describe in 300 words or less (no more than one typewritten, double-spaced page) why you should be selected as the Utah Head Start Father of the Year. Please be very specific. 4. You will also need a letter of reference from someone who knows you through your participation in our EHS program. Our staff would be happy to write that for you. Lil’ Charmer 1. Applicant must be the parent or guardian of a child who attended Head Start or Early Head Start during the 2012 - 2013 school year. 2. Include an essay of not more than 700 words outlining how this child made progress related to his/ her experience in Head Start/Early Head Start. This may be typed or handwritten. 3. Include a photo of the child. 4. Include a letter of support from a staff member (can be teacher, aide, bus driver, home visitor) that worked directly with your child. All applications are due to Debbie Justice, TLC St. George Center, by Friday August 29 at noon. Good luck! TLC is Hiring Want to get your foot in the door? We are currently hiring for a part time sib care provider to care for the siblings of children attending Kindermusik sessions. The responsibilities will be to help with the set up and clean up of Kindermusik sessions, provide a variety of age appropriate activities to the children, and ensure the health and safety of the children while they are under your care. This is a part-time (about 20 hrs./wk.) position that requires experience working with young children and their families. The Sib Care Provider must have the ability to remain calm in stressful situations and ask for help as needed. They will need to work as a member of a team and follow directions. Candidates must be able to work a flexible schedule. If you are interested in this position, please drop off a resume or fill out an application at the St. George TLC center, or call Malynne at (435)673-5353x 122.
