A National Treasure: The Appalachian Trail (and Random Acts of Kindness) - Every summer, Norwich and Hanover streets fill with Appalachian Trail “through hikers”: NOBO’s (or north bounders) who began their hike in Georgia in early spring, and SOBO’s headed for Georgia from the trail’s northern terminus at Maine’s Mount Katahdin. Who are these people and what motivates them to commit to such a demanding trek? Why, for example, would a 67 year old grandmother set out to hike the entire trail in 1955? What’s life like out there? Is it becoming overcrowded? Is it safe in light of a recent vicious attack and homicide? What has Hanover and Norwich done to become official “AT Hiker-Friendly Towns”? Hear from current AT hikers passing through and local volunteer “Trail Angels” supporting through-hikers on their quests. Presented by OSHER instructor Gregory Cook.

DOG TRAINING

Wednesday, JULY 10 and AUGUST 7 4:30 pm

Multi-Purpose Room $100.00

Instructor: Lindsey Quinn

These sessions will focus on the two most common training issues - pulling on the leash and jumping on people.

Week 1 will be a lecture (without dogs). You will discuss exercises to do at home to help with these behaviors, the pros and cons of ALL training tools from flat buckle collars to E collars, as not all methods work for all dogs, and you will review several different training methods and philosophies so that you can choose the right one for you and your dog.

Week 2 (with dogs) After selecting your training tools and trying some of the exercises at home, you will come to this session with questions. Lindsey will work with each dog and handler individually, as well as a small group. Weather permitting, you will walk the dogs outside.

This is a great class for dogs who need a refresher, dogs who have completed other classes but still pull and jump and for owners who would like more control of their dog.
