ST. PAUL’S TROY LUTHERAN JULY 2018 JULY THOUGHTS FROM PASTOR SCHUESSLER Dear Brothers and Sisters of St. Paul’s: How is your summer going so far? Believe it or not, the summer is half over (when July begins, not when you receive this newsletter). What have you done so far? My family celebrated the wedding of Matthew and Chelsey Schuessler. That took place on May 26 th , the Saturday of Memorial weekend. We traveled to Columbus, NE for the joyous event. They will be living in Lincoln, NE, where both of them have their jobs. You will see elsewhere in this newsletter that we are having a reception for them on Sunday, July1st. We invite you as part of our church family to celebrate with us. What else does the summer hold? VBS was a great success. What a joy to have 150 children form the community come into our facilities to hear the good news that “God is With Us.” We thank all the folks that it took to make it a success. We also thank all that give support through donations of material or money. VBS is truly one of those events that draws all of us together for a common goal. Come to think about it, that is the way all the ministry of St. Paul’s should be – working together for a common goal. I had the pleasure or perhaps it was the challenge of taking a course at the Concordia Seminary as part of my Doctor of Ministry degree. It was the last of the courses that I needed to take for the degree. All that is left is to work on my Major Applied Project (MAP). The plan is to begin working on that at the end of the summer and hopefully have it completed in a year. We’ll see if that comes to pass. Have you spent time in worship this summer? Sometimes we get the thought in mind that we need to take some time off from worship. Really? Do you face any temptation? Do you have any frustrations? Are you going through a trial or tribulation? Who is going to help you through that? Your Lord invites you to come and be fed from Word and Sacrament. In that time He meets you, feeds you, lifts you and strengthens you. It is important for your spiritual life. Yes, it is a time in which we lift our voices in songs of praise, but it is much more than that. If worship is only about praise, then you can do it anywhere. Worship is about what God does for you. He promises that He will be with you in Word and Sacrament. That is why we worship together. Summer is still a time in which we need worship. Well, so much for the thoughts for July. I will see you in worship. I will pray for you. I would ask for your continued prayers. Together we will grow in faith and in love. Yes, we remember that God is with us! Peace, Pastor Schuessler Penny and Pastor Schuessler would like to invite you to a special “Meet and Greet” event on Sunday, July 1 st from 2-4 p.m. What is this event? Our son Matthew was married in Columbus, NE on Saturday, May 26 th . His bride is Chelsey nee Seipel. We would have liked to invite you to come to the wedding in Nebraska but we also knew that was not feasible. So instead, we want to give you the opportunity to be a part of their wedding in this informal “meet and greet.” This is your opportunity to meet Chelsey and to congratulate both of them on their marriage. Cake and punch will be served by the ladies of St. Paul’s Helping Hands. (Thank you, ladies.) So, mark your calendar: Sunday, July 1 from 2-4 p.m. in the church fellowship hall (basement).

ST. PAUL’S TROY LUTHERAN JULY 2018

JULY THOUGHTS FROM PASTOR SCHUESSLER

Dear Brothers and Sisters of St. Paul’s:

How is your summer going so far? Believe it or not, the summer is half over (when July begins, not when you

receive this newsletter). What have you done so far? My family celebrated the wedding of Matthew and

Chelsey Schuessler. That took place on May 26th

, the Saturday of Memorial weekend. We traveled to

Columbus, NE for the joyous event. They will be living in Lincoln, NE, where both of them have their jobs.

You will see elsewhere in this newsletter that we are having a reception for them on Sunday, July1st. We invite

you as part of our church family to celebrate with us.

What else does the summer hold? VBS was a great success. What a joy to have 150 children form the

community come into our facilities to hear the good news that “God is With Us.” We thank all the folks that it

took to make it a success. We also thank all that give support through donations of material or money. VBS is

truly one of those events that draws all of us together for a common goal. Come to think about it, that is the way

all the ministry of St. Paul’s should be – working together for a common goal.

I had the pleasure or perhaps it was the challenge of taking a course at the Concordia Seminary as part of my

Doctor of Ministry degree. It was the last of the courses that I needed to take for the degree. All that is left is to

work on my Major Applied Project (MAP). The plan is to begin working on that at the end of the summer and

hopefully have it completed in a year. We’ll see if that comes to pass.

Have you spent time in worship this summer? Sometimes we get the thought in mind that we need to take some

time off from worship. Really? Do you face any temptation? Do you have any frustrations? Are you going

through a trial or tribulation? Who is going to help you through that? Your Lord invites you to come and be fed

from Word and Sacrament. In that time He meets you, feeds you, lifts you and strengthens you. It is important

for your spiritual life. Yes, it is a time in which we lift our voices in songs of praise, but it is much more than

that. If worship is only about praise, then you can do it anywhere. Worship is about what God does for you. He

promises that He will be with you in Word and Sacrament. That is why we worship together. Summer is still a

time in which we need worship.

Well, so much for the thoughts for July. I will see you in worship. I will pray for you. I would ask for your

continued prayers. Together we will grow in faith and in love. Yes, we remember that God is with us!

Peace,

Pastor Schuessler

Penny and Pastor Schuessler would like to invite you to a special “Meet and Greet” event on Sunday, July 1st

from 2-4 p.m. What is this event? Our son Matthew was married in Columbus, NE on Saturday, May 26th

. His

bride is Chelsey nee Seipel. We would have liked to invite you to come to the wedding in Nebraska but we also

knew that was not feasible. So instead, we want to give you the opportunity to be a part of their wedding in this

informal “meet and greet.” This is your opportunity to meet Chelsey and to congratulate both of them on their

marriage. Cake and punch will be served by the ladies of St. Paul’s Helping Hands. (Thank you, ladies.) So,

mark your calendar: Sunday, July 1 from 2-4 p.m. in the church fellowship hall (basement).
