General Manager’s Message
Dear Members:
Summer is here, and pool season is in full swing with hundreds of members and their guests utiliz-ing the pool each week. Several birthday parties have been held at the pool cabana, and sales in the Grill have been brisk. The Susan Johnson Memorial Couples Tournament this past weekend was a big hit with the 17 teams participating. Format was 2-person Captain's Choice, and a lovely reception was held after the 1st round courtesy of Bill Johnson. Firing rounds of 62-65, Dawson Walker and his mom, Cathy, captured 1st place. Today (July 2) we are hosting qualifying rounds for the Carolinas Amateur Championship and North Carolina Match Play Championship. 65 of the best amateur golfers in Western NC are here vying for 12 spots in the CGA AM and 28 spots in the NC Match Play. The annual Flag Day tournament will be held Thursday, July 4, and entry fee is $5.00 with all mon-ey going toward prizes. Sign up in the golf shop for this fun event. There will also be a family pool party on the 4th with games and music from noon-3:00 pm and 2 for 1 hot dogs in the Grill. For the adults, there will be a bar at the pool cabana from 2-8 pm, and a buffet dinner is being offered upstairs from 5:30-8:30 pm. Should be a fun 4th!! The Village of Cedar Rock annual fireworks display will be on Saturday, July 6, after dusk. Drink specials will be available on the veranda overlooking the driving range. Stake your spot out early as we anticipate a large crowd. We will be hosting the 1st and 3rd rounds of the Caldwell County Amateur on Friday, July 19, and Sunday, July 21. The 2nd round will be played at Lenoir GC on Saturday. Entry forms are in the golf shop. Our membership is growing as we have gained 36 new members since the 1st of the year. The word is getting out about the superb condition of the course and the quality of our food & bever-age. Our members have helped with social media postings of all the activities and parties, and this has proven to be a big boost as well. A final note of thanks to Justin Pennell, Mark Mayberry and Sterling Anders for their hard work and great job with the Member-Guest. Unfortunately, Mother Nature did not look kindly upon us, but these guys raised a record amount of sponsorship $ and secured 62 teams. Great job, fellas, and next year will be sunny and mild! Look forward to seeing you at the Club! Jim Hart, GM

Golf Course Superintendent Summer is here and so are the hot afternoons. With the temperatures in the 90’s more frequently and for
more consecutive days in a row, we will raise the mowing height on the greens 100th of an inch. This slight increase will help the plant hold a little more
moisture and provide more surface area to help it deal with these high temperatures. We will be cooling the greens in the afternoons. Please be patient with the
maintenance staff while we are watering. This is nec-essary to keep the greens from burning up.
Thank you for your help in keeping the course in as good a shape as possible.
Robert Reid, GCSAA Golf Course Superintendent
Chef’s Corner We are offering a 4th of July buffet on Thursday evening from 5:30-8:30 pm with pulled pork, bbq chicken, baked beans, potato salad, macaroni salad, slaw and assorted desserts. Adults are $12.95, children 6-12 $6.95, and kids under 6 free. Call the office to sign up. On Saturday, the 6th, we have a large class reunion party with 226 in the MDR and FPR. They will be enjoying a beef carving station and chicken marsala along with sides and dessert. The rest of July, we will be busy with various social groups, benefit golf tournaments and Thursday Night Dining.
Thanks for your support, and see you at Cedar Rock! Executive Chef John Deschler, CIA
