Prep English

This term we are looking at Rhyme.

So…. this is a great time to bring back any of the old nursery rhymes you may be familiar

with and recite them with your child and see if they can recognise the rhyming words.

Some children get stuck with this so please persist. Gently remind them that it’s the end of

the word that has to sound the same. Even nonsense words are fine when making rhyme.

Great work with the number practice during the holidays. We can already see that some

children are making great connections between numbers, their names and counting.

A big focus this semester is on the idea of addition. The process of joining two groups

together to see how many altogether. This task is made easier for children to comprehend when using every day tasks. EG When setting the table — I have 3 plates and you have 2 how many do we have altogether? We need 4 chairs but there are only 3 here how many do we need to get? There are so many opportunities for you at home to put some simple

addition into practice so why not have a go for yourselves!

OUR RECENT AWARD WINNERS INCLUDE :

Hunter Zieth & Silas Mason for both showing a great

effort to write independently in the classroom.

Well done to all these great workers!

They have been examining their text structure, language features, audio and visual features, characters, stereotypes and ethical dilemmas. With a little more investigation the students will choose an ethical dilemma that they will then plan a character and plot profile for, create a storyboard and then create a digital short story. Their short story will be approximately 8 to 16 frames that will run for about 30 to 60 seconds.

Geography:

Already this term the students have been learning about the cartographic conventions of maps using the term BOLTSS. We have looked at Europe and North America and where they are located, as well as their major countries and some human and environmental characteristics. In our most recent Geography lesson, we learnt about area reference and spatial distribution to describe and represent the location of human and environmental characteristics.

Dixie my Calf— By Cooper

Dixie is the most devious little devil

I lover her with all my heart

Extremely beautiful

I hate you then I love you

Extremely playful sometimes even hateful.

Brumby—By Carrie

Black and grey shadow racing on the ground

Rumbling of the hooves make the mountains echo

Untamed, wild and free as they eat along the flats

Mares, fillies, colts and stallions gallop as fast like feral cats

Bay, roan, chestnut remember all the rest

You have got to love a brumby, they truly are the best.

Brumby My Horse—By Brianna

Best horse I have ever met

Round you up to see your face

Under the sun shine we gallop

Me and you will stick together

You will never dies, you’re just fine.

My life is yours

You and me will never fall

High we stand above the rest

Our love will never end, you’re the best

Rest of them doesn't matter you’re mine

See I told you, who cares if you’re a brumby

Exiled from the high country to my paddock.

Ricky my Horse—By Aylah

Really devious

Itching for mischief

Cheeky as a monkey

Kind and caring

You are my pony.

Dolphins—By Lilly

Devious as can be

Oceans as blue as the sky

Lovely and caring like a friend

Physical exercise needed to stay alive

Happy and fun like playing fun games

Intelligent and

Naughty, sometimes even cheeky you are

So beautiful I want to be your friend.

Wild Brumbies — By Kiralee

Windy wonderful creatures

Intelligent and graceful

Lovely, gorgeous and ghost like

Devious they are.

Brumbies in the high country

Right where they’re meant to be

Under the cover of the caves

Mercy, mercy they will say

Beneath the leaves of the autumn

Ill but beautiful

Endless love will never end

Such a friendship, never to be broken
