Welcome
Welcome back to another term. I hope
that everyone had a terrific break and
had some time to do something special
with your family. I have heard many
holiday stories and it sounds like some of
you had a very busy few weeks.
Grants
Over the holidays I applied for a number
of grants for our school. We have been
lucky enough to receive a Sporting
Schools grant which is going to help
cover the costs of having some dance
lessons at school and I am also trying to
get some Oztag coaching too.
We have also received a STEM grant for
$9000, which will go towards our school
camp. This grant will cover additional
activities such as 3D printing, robotics
and coding activities in Brisbane.
Trait of the Week
This term we have introduced a trait of
the week. These traits are life skills which
our students need to help them be
successful learners. Each class will talk
about the weekly trait and complete
activities. Then each Monday students
will be awarded on parade for
demonstrating the trait in class or in the
playground.
This weeks trait is: Positive Attitude
Prac Student
We welcome Brianna Cook to our school.
She will be completing her practical for
university in the prep room each Tuesday
for this term. I am sure she will
thoroughly enjoy her time with Mrs Scott
and the Preps.
SPORT:
District Athletics
This Friday the 21st we will be hosting
the district athletics carnival. All
students will be participating in this
day, with the older students rotating
through their events while the
students under 8 will participate in
some fun rotations. All students
regardless of age will compete in a
sprint. We look forward to having lots
of parents on the side line cheering
our students on.
Cross Country
Congratulations to Tarah who
represented Wide Bay at the State
Cross Country trials over the weekend
in Brisbane. Tarah did exceptional
well and placed 38 out of 61
competitors.
Softball
Good luck to Connor who will be
representing Wide Bay in
Toowoomba next week for the State
Softball trials. I am sure you will
compete with enthusiasm and
sportsmanship.
Big Day Out
On the 28th of July our year 4-6
students will participate in the Big
Day Out. This is a excellent yearly
event which brings students together
from a range of schools to participate
in different activities to build life
skills. This year students will be
travelling to Cania for the day. A
permission note will be sent home
and needs to be returned before the
28th.

This term we are looking at Rhyme.
So…. this is a great time to bring back any of the old nursery rhymes you may be familiar
with and recite them with your child and see if they can recognise the rhyming words.
Some children get stuck with this so please persist. Gently remind them that it’s the end of
the word that has to sound the same. Even nonsense words are fine when making rhyme.
Great work with the number practice during the holidays. We can already see that some
children are making great connections between numbers, their names and counting.
A big focus this semester is on the idea of addition. The process of joining two groups
together to see how many altogether. This task is made easier for children to comprehend when using every day tasks. EG When setting the table — I have 3 plates and you have 2 how many do we have altogether? We need 4 chairs but there are only 3 here how many do we need to get? There are so many opportunities for you at home to put some simple
addition into practice so why not have a go for yourselves!
OUR RECENT AWARD WINNERS INCLUDE :
Hunter Zieth & Silas Mason for both showing a great
effort to write independently in the classroom.
Well done to all these great workers!

With a little more investigation the students will choose an ethical dilemma that they will then plan a character and plot profile for, create a storyboard and then create a digital short story. Their short story will be approximately 8 to 16 frames that will run for about 30 to 60 seconds.
Geography:
Already this term the students have been learning about the cartographic conventions of maps using the term BOLTSS. We have looked at Europe and North America and where they are located, as well as their major countries and some human and environmental characteristics.
