Simple Summer safety tipsA few simple electrical safety rules can prevent injuries:• Make sure patio string lights

(like holiday lights) are approved for extended outdoor use

• Ladders – even those made of wood – that come into contact with a power line can be fatal. Stay at least 10 feet away from overhead power lines

• Unplug outdoor tools and appliances when not in use

• Inspect power tools and appliances for frayed cords, broken plugs and cracked or broken housing

• Water and electricity do not mix. Avoid damp conditions – including wet grass – when using electricity

• Practice pool and spa safety. Underwater lighting and pool equipment are just a few examples of how electricity can come in contact with pool water. Visit cpsc.gov for information on electrical safety around pools
