That helps us a lot.” He said they’ve spent years building a reputation for quality work and materials. “Some folks think we just work in the agriculture areas, and we can repair your tractor tire or large truck tire with our service truck on your farm, but we are much more,” he said. “We do all makes and models of cars. You name it and we’ve rolled it through the door. It doesn’t matter if it’s a Mercedes Benz or BMW, Acura or a Chevy; we do them all primarily because we have the brand name products that those vehicles require. Charwood Smokehaus & Grill

It’s all about the smoke, flavorand slow cooking when it comesto the best Bar-B-Q productsand the two Troys in the kitchenat Charwood Smokehaus & Grillare well versed in the secrets ofgreat tasting meats and sides.

“We’ve been working togetherfor about eight years,” saidCharwood partners Troy Elbertand Troy Collier. “We startedsmall, just cooking for ourfriends and for small privateevents.”

Elbert said they eventuallybegan entering competitions and when they began to winawards and gain notoriety theyknew they were on the trail tosomething bigger.

“Last fall we decided to openthe shop downtown in Freeportand we are just running as fastas we can to keep up with thedemand,” he said.

Elbert said the team worked

for a full seven years perfectingtheir brisket and now include itwith their very popular pulledpork, bar-b-q chicken, pork loin, and at least two different casedmeats like Italian sausage orbrats daily.

The sides at Charwood arealready the talk of the town. They include baked beans, Coleslaw, homemade cornbread andpotato salad.

Elbert said the key wordbehind their sides is HOMEMADE! Charwood makes everything from scratch.Everything! Beans, slaw, eventhe cornbread and the differenceis truly in the taste.

“We also offer three sauces,”he added. “We have our HausSauce that is more of the northern variety sauce withmore sweet than tang flavor. Weoffer our Carolina Sauce whichhas a mustardy flavor with a lotof vinegar tang, and then wehave our Spicy Sauce which is basically our Haus made real

spicy.”

Again, expect thesauces to overflow withthe homemade goodness andflavor that is rapidly making CharwoodSmokehaus & Grill the place tobe for lunch in downtownFreeport.

Elbert said he’s been associated with downtownFreeport since he was a littlekid. His family owns Freeportanchor: Rite-Way Furniture andwhen the building now housingCharwood became available hejumped at the opportunity.

“We pretty much know everybody downtown and wedecided that if we were going togo as a food spot, downtown isthe way to go,” he said. “Folkscan come in, order what they

want, grab a bunch of napkins and choose betweensitting inside to eat in air conditioning or crowd up toour standing bar and chowdown. We keep it casual andfolks seem to like it that way.”

He saidthere are alsofour tables in the shadycourtyard out front forthose folks

that prefer to eat outside.

“We’re just getting started andthere are a lot of options withthis location,” he said. “We areoffering a daily special right nowand every Friday is RiB FrIdAy!Bet on our ribs!”

He said they do mounds ofbaby back ribs startingThursday evening and for nowat least, it seems they never doenough.

“They are selling out in about45 minutes,” Elbert said. “Weliterally have not stopped cooking in about three weeks. We started out doing just a tonof meat and then had to doubleit the next week and we will

probably have to double it again. They go really fast.”

Elbert said they are open at11 am Monday through Fridayand run till they sell out. Call toreserve your orders or take yourchances in the lines and the fallout from the great reputationthe guys at CharwoodSmokehaus & Grill are building.

Elite WeldingElite Welding provides general

welding and specialty work with a heavy emphasis on theconstruction of custom trailers.

“I do a lot of work with carand utility trailers,” said EliteWelding owner Trevor Haas. “I also provide rental trucks and U-Hauls and we recentlybecame the Trailways bus stop.”

Haas said he opened for business in April of 2010 andchose to operate in the Freeportarea because he had worked in the area for years with a trucking firm and finally decidedto open his own business.

“I mostly build different styles of trailers,” he said. “Ifsomebody comes in the shopand wants something customlike a specific size or use weusually sit down and get thedesign and layout the way theywant it and then I build it.”

He said he keeps a smallstock on hand for walk-in customers, but prefers to buildthe trailers to order.

“It usually takes about a weekto ten days to build one to acustomer’s specifications,” Haassaid. “A lot depends on how biga trailer they need and if there

are complicated custom accessories involved.”

He said business is picking upand he is looking to grow overthe next few years.

“I’m not looking for newemployees at this point, but Iwould like to get bigger andbusier,” said Haas. “I think if Ibuild my stock and get my nameout there things will get evenbetter.”

He said quality work andtimely delivery keeps folks coming back to Elite Welding.

“If someone needs a trailerthey need it built right the firsttime and they want it deliveredwhen I say it will be ready,”Haas said. “I really think providing quality craftsmanshipis what makes the difference inthe custom welding business.”

Me, Megamind,and a specialsurprise movieon August 10.

Mazrimas said that attracting folks

to downtown Freeport is a longterm Lindo goal.

“We are very happy to seebusinesses opening downtownwhere people can come andhave dinner or a cocktail beforeor after a movie,” he said. “Ourhope is to bring more peopledowntown and let them spend

more time. Sometimes I’m surprised that there aren’t more businesses at the theatre meeting people and handing out coupons for maybe an icecream or a kid’s meal. I’m just surprised that there isn’t morethinking along the lines of how the downtown Freeport businesses could take advantage of the crowd that isalready downtown and at theLindo.”

He said that part of theirstrategy in building the nine-screen theatre was to offermovie choices and draw trafficto the downtown.

“When we went to ninescreens we gained the ability toplay more of those great moviesthat are currently available andprovide choices,” he said. “Whatwe wanted to capture is that thebest movies are all there in theLindo and right in downtownFreeport.”

Are you wearing boots when you should be wearing sandals? At FHN we offer the latest technology in safe, effective laser treatment for varicose veins. Our surgeons use EVLT (endovenuous laser treatment), also known as ELAS (endoluminal laser ablation of the greater saphenous vein), to remove painful, bulging veins in the legs. This treatment reduces pain and throbbing and can also help relieve the symptoms of restless leg syndrome. And EVLT is done in the surgeon’s office, under mild sedation, so you don’t need to stay at the hospital. You’ll be up and moving around just hours after the procedure.

If you’re limiting your summer wardrobe because of varicose veins, give us a call at 1-877-6000-FHN (1-877-600-0246) ext. 935 or visit us online at www.fhn.org. We’ll have you back in sandals in no time. Now, state-of-the-art wound treatment is here. For you.
