Hard work pays

off!!

On June 2nd, 2018 a group of 17 youths represented Modoc County 4-H the State 4-H Field Day at UC Davis in Davis, CA. The group came home with 1 Top Honor, 12 Golds, 4 Blues and 1 Red. Par ticipants competed in the State Presentation Day, Fashion Revue, Photography Competition and were able to do many activities provided by the California 4-H office. Among the favorites of these was an egg drop contest and a Ro-botics area. To participate in State Presentation Day, you must have received a Gold from your coun-ty competition and a Gold from Far North Sectional’s to compete. In Fashion Revue you must also have participated in your County’s 4-H Fashion Revue and be the County win-ner in your category to qualify for State Fashion Revue. Addie fields of Davis Creek took Top Honors in Fashion Revue for her vintage inspired 70’s dress. She was assisted during this project by her grandmother who let her pick from her personal collection of patterns, to find one that she could use for a “retro” inspired look. Maggie Blankenship of Davis Creek 4-H received a Gold for her Demonstration of playing the Flute. Surprise Valley sent Trevor Pratt doing a Demonstration on Bareback Riding Equipment, he earned a Gold for this power point presentation. New Pioneer 4-H was represented by Elora Camacho with her Interpretive Reading of “One eyes, two eyes, three eyes” and Madalyn Wilcox doing her Interpretive Reading of “The Flower’s Les-son”, both earned a Gold. Taylor and Clarissa Allert also representing New Pioneer 4-H and entered the Photography competition, both girls earned a Gold and Blue for their pho-tographs. Elizabeth Landoski of Providence 4-H earned a Gold in Interpretive Reading for her rendition of “Two Sides to Every Story”, the tale of “The Three Little Pigs” told in the voice of “The Big Bad Wolf”. Adyson Wright of Tulelake 4-H earned a Gold for her Science Presentation and Caiden Wright also from Tulelake 4-H earned a Blue for his Sci-ence Presentation. Candy Hot Springs 4-H was represented by Emma Brandes earning a Red for her Demonstration on “Tutting”, Verity Deardorff earned a Gold for her Informa-tive Prepared Speech on “Stress”, Nuria Herlin earned a Blue for her Interpretive reading of “I have a Dream”, Duane Johnson received a Gold for his Cultural Arts Presentation of “Cello Suite”, Christopher Johnson and Rochelle Mann earned a Gold for their Science Presentation on “Black Holes”, and to round it off this year we had a group present in the “Share the Fun” Skit category, Naomi Mann, Verity Deardorff, Nuria Herlin, Grace Lin-den, Rochelle Mann, Emma Brandis, Duane Johnson and Christopher Johnson earned a Gold for “How to do Basic Swing Dancing”. This year was so exciting. Modoc County 4-H youth turned heads at the State office, with the 2nd largest number of participants from the State. “I am so proud of the amount of hard work and dedication from these youth”, says Sadie Camacho Director of Modoc County 4-H. Thanks to the Milano’s, Family members and Club leaders for encouraging our kids to aim high.
