It was agreed upon by the body of the church as led by our Fruitful Congregation Team three to four years ago. The implementation of our vision statement as well as other goals decided upon during the first three years of our Fruitful Congrega- tion journey are only in their early stages. Full re- sults will not be seen for some time yet. Of course, successful results will be dictated by our ability and willingness to embrace the challenges that naturally come from such a process. As we continue to move in this direction it is all the more important that we understand what our vi- sion statement is all about. After all, it is the means by which we will seek to fulfill our mission state- ment which is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. So, what does it mean to us to love God? The first thing that comes to mind is the scripture where Jesus is asked by the Pharisees to tell them which is the greatest commandment. He told them this; “„Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.‟ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the se- cond is like it: „Love your neighbor as your- self.” 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Matthew 22:37-39 As part of our core values, which were also agreed upon through our Fruitful Congregation Jour- ney, we have also declared the following; “We believe in following the example of Jesus. We value every person and treat one another with love and care. We welcome people of all ages and backgrounds by sharing the gospel, fostering engage- ment, and nurturing discipleship. (Rom. 3:21-26, Ecclesiastes 4:9-12)” What then is the answer to our question; What does it mean to love God? It simply comes down to this – loving God with all that we are, all that we have, and all we‟ll ever be. Loving God also re- quires us to live out that love by learning how to love all of those around us and not just our family or friends. We are called to love people in the condi- tion we find them even as God loves us in the condi- tion he found us. Loving God requires us to turn over our desires in order to fulfill God‟s desires for us as individuals and as a congregation. As Jesus said; “Not my will, but thy will be done.” As you may have guessed, the tricky part here is being able to humble ourselves before the Lord, let- ting go of what we want, what we like, and what we are comfortable with in order to get serious about making God our first priority. Our goal here is fully scriptural and within God‟s call for each of us. We can find and experience all God‟s goodness, mercy, and blessings and begin ful- filling our vision to love God if we will humble our- selves before the Lord and pray. So, will you join me in the coming months to be in prayer as we sur- render our will and pray for God‟s will to be done in our hearts, our lives, our church, and our communi- ties even as it is in heaven. NOTES FROM THE PASTOR

LOVE GOD

Each week on the front of our bulletin we see our

vision statement. “Love God, Build Bridges, and

Grow Together.” These three points came to us, as a

church, after much prayer, discussion, and spiritual

discernment. It was agreed upon by the body of the

church as led by our Fruitful Congregation Team

three to four years ago. The implementation of our

vision statement as well as other goals decided upon

during the first three years of our Fruitful Congrega-

tion journey are only in their early stages. Full re-

sults will not be seen for some time yet. Of course,

successful results will be dictated by our ability and

willingness to embrace the challenges that naturally

come from such a process.

As we continue to move in this direction it is all

the more important that we understand what our vi-

sion statement is all about. After all, it is the means

by which we will seek to fulfill our mission state-

ment which is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for

the transformation of the world.

So, what does it mean to us to love God? The

first thing that comes to mind is the scripture where

Jesus is asked by the Pharisees to tell them which is

the greatest commandment. He told them this;

“„Love the Lord your God with all your heart and

with all your soul and with all your mind.‟ 38 This is

the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the se-

cond is like it: „Love your neighbor as your-

self.” 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these

two commandments.”

Matthew 22:37-39

As part of our core values, which were also

agreed upon through our Fruitful Congregation Jour-

ney, we have also declared the following;

“We believe in following the example of Jesus.

We value every person and treat one another with

love and care. We welcome people of all ages and

backgrounds by sharing the gospel, fostering engage-

ment, and nurturing discipleship. (Rom. 3:21-26,

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12)”

What then is the answer to our question; What

does it mean to love God? It simply comes down to

this – loving God with all that we are, all that we

have, and all we‟ll ever be. Loving God also re-

quires us to live out that love by learning how to love

all of those around us and not just our family or

friends. We are called to love people in the condi-

tion we find them even as God loves us in the condi-

tion he found us.

Loving God requires us to turn over our desires in

order to fulfill God‟s desires for us as individuals

and as a congregation. As Jesus said; “Not my will,

but thy will be done.”

As you may have guessed, the tricky part here is

being able to humble ourselves before the Lord, let-

ting go of what we want, what we like, and what we

are comfortable with in order to get serious about

making God our first priority.

Our goal here is fully scriptural and within God‟s

call for each of us. We can find and experience all

God‟s goodness, mercy, and blessings and begin ful-

filling our vision to love God if we will humble our-

selves before the Lord and pray. So, will you join

me in the coming months to be in prayer as we sur-

render our will and pray for God‟s will to be done in

our hearts, our lives, our church, and our communi-

ties even as it is in heaven.

God bless you,

Pastor Darren

It’s Never to Late to Start . . .

By utilizing the latest methods of electronic bank-

ing, eGive ensures that your pledge/offering are deliv-

ered electronically, increasing efficiency and saving

resources and time for you, the giver. Convenience is

a big part of eGive. No more writing weekly or

monthly checks or getting behind on your pledge be-

cause of weather, vacations, etc. Through your bank,

you would make your pledge using the bank Bill Pay

method.

eGive Benefits

eGive makes good stewardship easy and conven-

ient.

You will never get behind on your pledges because

the eGive transactions are scheduled (through bank

Bill Pay) for the amount and on the date selected.

This eliminates the need to write a check and bring

your envelope on weekly basis. You will still need to

write checks for special giving (Missions, Easter

Flowers, Projector, Building Fund, VBS, etc.)

Your Bill Pay payment provides you an instant re-

ceipt for your records.

The church will be provided a notification of your

pledge for the Financial Secretary‟s records when your

bank sends a bill pay check. Remember; tell your bank

that you want to sign up Bill Pay.

How Do I Sign Up?

Contact our church treasurer who will assist you in

setting up your electronic payment.

Your payment (pledge) is made through your own

bank using Bill Pay. This is Direct Debit Giving,

where your donation is given directly from your bank

account to the Church‟s account.

The payment will be made to The Fairmount State

Bank, 101 North Main Street, PO Box 8, Fairmount,

IN 46928.

The payment account will be requested when you

initially set up the payment. For example: Routing #

074904365, act# 006xxxx. Our treasurer will provide

the complete number when you are ready to set it up.
