Muslims & Jesus Workshop Tuesday, July 30, 7:00pm What do our Muslim friends believe about Jesus, the Bible, the Kingdom of God, prayer and prophets? And what are some redeeming truths they hold that build a bridge to communicate the Gospel? This workshop is presented by Jason Caywood and Cherie Gray. Please RSVP [email protected] Ramadan, July 9 - August 7, 2013 Muslims all over the world will be praying and fasting during daylight hours throughout this, their holy month. Every day for 30 days they will wake before sunrise and then feast after sunset. It is a time to purify themselves and focus completely on God. Do you have any Muslim friends? Here are some ideas that will help you be Jesus to them during this season: 1. Try to visit them in the evenings rather than during the day. If you visit in the day they will still insist that you eat and drink, even though they will not, and it is a bit awkward for both parties. 2. Invite them to your house during Ramadan to break fast together after sunset. Ask them beforehand what is important for this special meal called an “iftar” and where to buy it. 3. Keep in mind that visiting and sharing meals is more appropriate toward the end of the month. Ramadan starts out rather somber and ends up more festive, especially with the big holiday at the end. 4. Be ready to tell your Muslim friends what you believe about fasting and what the Injeel (Bible) says about it. (see Isaiah 58:6-12 among others) 5. Challenge your Muslim friends to read the “4 Holy Books” (Torah, Psalms, Gospels, Koran). Every good Muslim tries to read through the Koran beginning to end during Ramadan. The Ko- ran also commands Muslims to read these other Holy Books. Do some research and find one (Bible) for them in their own language. 6. Consider a practical way to bless them in Jesus name during the 3 day holiday at the end of Ramadan. This holiday (eid al-fitr) is similar to our American Christmas with new clothes, gifts and lots of visiting. 7. Pray! Intercede for Muslims throughout this month. It is hard to fast in the summer months. May the Holy Spirit moves and work among them in this time of spiritual devotion, radically changing hearts and revealing Jesus to them in a powerful way. What an incredible season this is! I get to spend next week with kids from all over the world who live right here in Tucson. Then I get to head to Vancouver and join with refugee workers from across North America at the Refugee Roundtable. Then in September we are gonna have our own summit here in Tucson for the Refugee Ministry Networking Extravaganza. I LOVE to gather with others and celebrate what God is doing!

Cherie Gray Executive Director Tucson Refugee Ministry

International Kids Kamp A contextual VBS

July 8 - 13

We have a record number of campers and volunteers this year and are ready for an incredible week!

Come out and join us for the PARENTS NIGHT CARNIVAL and see the kids perform on Friday, July 12th at 7:30pm.

EDUCATE & MOBILIZE

Most churches in Tucson still have not heard about the opportunities to welcome refugees.

Invite us to your church, small group, or Sunday School class to speak about

refugees. Contact [email protected] to

schedule a presentation.

PRayER SToRy There are nearly 1000 new refugees arriving in Tucson every year. They were forced to flee their country with nothing except what was on their back, leaving behind houses, careers, fortunes, friends and family. This is a true story of one those courageous people who is building their new life in America. Would you join me in bringing these nations, our neighbors, to the throne of God?

My name is Lu and I am Karenni . I was born in a Thailand Refugee camp and I came to America about four years ago. I always go to math club with John and Del on Sat-urday. They are amazing men and seem to love us so much! We meet in my friend's apartment. Every Saturday we go over the stuff we struggle study-ing together with and try to solve it. For example,

if I don't know how to solve a problem in math or I don't know how to do my work in my classes, I can get help in math club. It helps me with things I learned but forgot.

It doesn't only help with math , it also helps with a lot of other stuff. It has

helped me a lot with my learning in school and gaining greater understanding. John and Del helped me with my science fair project and I won Grand Prize in my Mid-dle School Science Fair. Then I advanced to Southern Arizona Regional Science Fair and got a 2nd place for 8th grade science . Math club is a great extra help and I love it.

LORD JESUS, PLEASE BLESS LU AND GIVE HIM GREAT CAPACITY TO LEARN AND TO GO FAR, NOT ONLY ACADEMICALLY, BUT ALSO IN HIS SPIRITUAL GROWTH. WE THANK YOU FOR THESE GENTLEMEN WHO GIVE UP EVERY SATURDAY TO INVEST IN THESE KIDS. RAISE UP MORE LIKE THEM.

GOT AIRLINE MILES?

If you have extra frequent flier miles, we could certainly put them to good use. Cherie is often invited to speak at conferences outside of Tucson. And TRM volunteers often have opportunities to attend conferences for ministry development that will impact TRM constituents (both refugees and churches).
