The Faith Formation Office has moved! We are now between the St. John XXIII and Marth Mary, rooms—not a bad place to be. No matter where we move our faith is always with us. It is the lens and foundation in which we see and live out our experiences. The formation of our faith is an ebb and flow in seeking knowledge and understanding in order to communicate it, share it and live it as faithful disciples of Jesus. So no matter where we are or what we are doing, remember as Catholic

Christians we represent Christ. How well of a job are we doing? Can you defend the faith? Can you share God’s grace and mercy in your life? What do you do to enrich and feed your own soul? What do you do to bring others to Christ? Our four walls do not make our ministry so no matter where we are, know that you are always welcome and our resources are available to you in the Faith Formation Office.

Join “Created for Covenant,” a Catholic Biblical School of Michigan (CBSM) class starting the week of September 15, in St. Clair Shores, Grosse Pointe Park, Novi, or online. Through donations, CBSM classes are accessible to all with 100% of requests for financial assistance met. Find out more at cbsmich.org, by attending an Information Night on Tuesday, July 16, at 7:15 p.m., at St. Clare of Montefalco in Grosse Pointe Park, or by contacting [email protected] / (586) 438-3085.

In today’s Gospel (Luke 10:1-12, 17-20), we see how Jesus sent his Apostles out two by two. In this spirit, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul members “go out two by two” to visit our neighbors

who contact us at their time of need in their homes. It is there, in the family setting, that Vincentians listen, offer humble advice and render assistance.

While the material needs of our neighbors are often great, their spiritual needs may be greater still. As Vincentians we often discover on many occasions, when a neighbor present us with their problem or seeks our advice, we come eventually to realize their real need is not only our advice or assistance, but rather the sympathy of our listening heart. Often we feel that after having given advice to people what they were really asking for is understanding and compassion. They are seeking a listening heart rather than a speaking bureau of information.” (McCullen, Deep Down Things, p. 538-9)

If you interested in learning more about OLV’s SVdP ministry, please call the OLV SVdP Hotline at (248) 349-2622 or e-mail us at: [email protected], and one of our members will contact you and share what being a Vincentian is all about. Or join us at our next SVdP meeting this Tuesday, July 9, at 7:00 p.m., in the St. John XXIII Room.

HELLO OLV Altar Servers! Please note that throughout the summer months, alter serving is on a volunteer basis only. There will be a sign-in sheet at each Mass for trained Altar Servers to be able to serve. All servers newly trained and “retired” are welcome to help out!

Each Server should write their name on the sheet at the podium in the Gathering Space prior to entering the sacristy to dress in their alb. Thank you for your help this summer! We will begin training new servers next fall.

Also, we are in need of a new coordinator for next year’s Altar Server Schedule. Please call the Parish Office or email [email protected] for more information.

Young Adult Ministry The Detroit Catholic Young Adult series, “Summer in Detroit,” launches this week as part of the Unleash the Gospel initiative.

The Tuesday evening series includes an art night on July 10 with sacred artist Mary Dudek demonstrating clay portrait sculpture; an evening of service on July 17 with speakers and the opportunity to participate in either the St. Paul Street Evangelization or backpack ministry; Theology on Tap with Father Steve Pullis speaking about the desire for happiness on July 23; and an adoration night on July 30, the feast day of Blessed Solanus Casey, led by Father Mario Amore with prayer teams for healing, beautiful music, and confession.

Your gifts to the Catholic Services Appeal support the Young Adult and Campus Ministry Office, which provides young adults with opportunities to grow in their faith through evangelization, catechesis, spiritual growth, liturgical formation, social events, and service.

Details about these events can be found on the Archdiocese of Detroit Facebook page and at unleashthegospel.org. For information about the Catholic Services Appeal, please go to aod.org/csa.

David lives on….

David Widzinski COMMUNITY GOLF CLASSIC

A community gathering to remember and celebrate David’s life, faith and spirit, while supporting local charitable causes.

On December 3, 2012, our son, brother and friend, David Widzinski, died in his sleep. David appeared to be in perfect health and his passing was a tremendous shock to his family, friends and community. After David’s passing, we decided to take action to remember David and the tremendous impact he had on many people.

Who was David? • He was a fun loving, kind-hearted and compassionate 16-year-old young Northville resident. • He was a good student and athlete. • Most importantly, he deeply loved and cared about people, and not just his friends or family, but everyone, from the homeless,

to the quiet or lonely, and to those who needed a friend. Since losing David, we hold a golf outing and dinner on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend. We call it the David Widzinski Community Golf Classic because it is a community event, where we love, laugh, remember David, and help others. This year’s golf outing will be held on September 1, 2019, at Tanglewood Golf Course in South Lyon. We hope you can join us.

We also ask our community for help so that we can create a memorable event, including raffling gift baskets to support this celebration of David’s life. This is a memorial celebration and proceeds are donated to local families in need, as David would want it. If David had only one dollar in his pocket, he would always give it away before using it for himself.

If you are in a position to do so, please help us by making a cash donation, sponsoring a Hole ($100/hole), or donating something that we can use as a raffle prize. Please contact Barbara Widzinski at [email protected] or

Our Lady of Victory 2019 Youth Mission “This Catholic Heart Work Camp (CHWC) has completely changed my view on religion. I used to think that God was something people only focused on in Sunday church. I see now that everything in your life can be influenced by your

faith. For example, at the camp we were told to ‘radiate’ God’s light through volunteering. The humbling act of working for people that are less fortunate than ourselves was a way that people could practice their religion in their daily life. I truly loved being at this camp. I made tons of new friends from all over the east half of America. We all liked to joke around and mimic each other’s accents. I also enjoyed it because there was never a dull moment with music playing all of the time and a new activity planned every hour. All in all, CHWC is a wonderful opportunity for teens to strengthen their faith and do great deeds.”  Marisa Reddy, Northville High School

Marisa Reddy will be a senior at Northville High School this coming fall and we were blessed to have her join us on our trip. The pictures above were from her work site. Next year’s mission trip will probably take place, again, the first week after the Northville Schools get out of class. If you are a high school student-consider coming along!
