The 16th Sunday In Ordinary Time

Last week, we heard Jesus tell us the Parable of the Sower and the Seed. This week, we continue with Jesus’ series of parables found in the 13th chapter of Matthew’s Gospel. Today, we hear Jesus tell us the Parable of the Wheat and Weeds. Jesus proposed another parable to the crowds, saying: "The kingdom of heaven may be likened to a man who sowed good seed in his field. While everyone was asleep his enemy came and sowed weeds all through the wheat, and then went off.” In this painting by Domenico Fetti, we see the artist’s Parable of the Weeds (1622). In the center of the painting is the devil sowing weeds. A closer look at the figure in the middle reveals him as the devil because he has horns atop his head. The devil is sowing weeds while the farmers are sleeping. Do you notice anything strange? In Fetti’s painting, it is day time. The sun is shining brightly, yet everyone is sleeping. Instead of being awake, the farmers are fast asleep. In the Gospel of Matthew, we hear Jesus tell us that “while everyone was asleep, the enemy came.” What does Jesus mean? Are we not to sleep? St. John

Chrysostom, in his sermon on Matthew’s Gospel teaches, “and how is it possible not to sleep? One may say. Indeed, as to natural sleep, it is not possible; but as to that of our moral faculty, it is possible.” Jesus is teaching us not to fall asleep morally. When we fall asleep in our morals, the devil will sow error, vice, and sin in our lives. Yet, aren’t most people today asleep, like the farmers in the parable and painting. Most Catholics and Christians today are asleep morally. There are many people in the Church, including clergy, religious, and laity, who don’t believe in any morality and who don’t teach any morality: “Everything is good and acceptable. Nothing is bad or sinful.” When we fall asleep in morality, the devil will sow the weeds of wickedness in our world. Last week, I informed you that the air conditioner for the church is not working. There was a power surge in our neighborhood a week earlier, and a result of this surge, our compressor was broken. Therefore, the air conditioning unit for church is not working. One parishioner told Fr. Stobba to relay a message to me that “we should have a second collection.” Here’s my response to this parishioner, if you would speak to me, instead of through a messenger. This is what I would tell you. No, we will not have a second collection for the air conditioner. Why? Do you remember our To Teach Who Christ Is campaign that we went through in 2015? For 15 weeks in 2015, the parish went through this campaign to raise over $500,000 to help the parish make future repairs and improvements. One of the five goals of the campaign was to replace our nearly 50 year old air conditioning unit. (By the way, how many of you have 50 year old air conditioning units in your homes? They have probably been replaced long ago. Yet, people think that a 50 year old machine for church is just fine). Any way back to my train of thought: I and the parishioners on the committee were very clear that the church air conditioning needed to be replace in the very near future. During the 15 week process, I spoke at the masses; information was in the bulletin, information was posted in church, information was sent home in the mail; we had parish gatherings. Parishioners helped contact others to make pledges and support the campaign, so that we could accomplish our goals, like replacing the air conditioning.

An air conditioner for church is not cheap. You cannot buy one for church like for a home for $5,000. That’s why a second collection will not do. Air conditioning for a building like our church costs well over $50,000. How would a second collection get there? You see our building fund total. We average $1,500. That’s why we needed parishioners to support our To Teach Who Christ Is campaign.

The problem we have now is that we do not have enough money in our To Teach Who Christ Is account to pay for a new air conditioners. Some funds have been coming in. Thank you to our faithful parishioners who have made a sacrifice. However, there are many people who have not made a contribution. The Archdiocese sends the parish an email every month for our TTWCI campaign. I see all the names of people: those who have made full payments, those who are making payments. What is disheartening is the long list of people who promised to support the campaign who have made no payments on their pledges.

This is why we don’t have enough money in our account to cover our goals. Yet, now when our air conditioner finally broke, people are the first to complain. Nobody has any excuses at this point in time. Parishioners were asked to step up to the plate and help with the TTWCI campaign. Some parishioners have supported the campaign. A heartfelt thank you. I have made a contribution too. However, many have not. You either support the team or do not. Sitting on the bench, on the side helps nobody. So, we press forward with our plans as best as we can. We are still getting other estimates and bids from contractors, and we will have to wait until we have enough funds in our account.

May the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Good Help, help us with her maternal care and St. Joseph pray for us. Vivat Jesus! Live Jesus!

La semana pasada, escuchamos a Jesús decirnos la Parábola del Sembrador y la Semilla. Esta semana, conti-nuamos con la serie de parábolas de Jesús que se encuentran en el capítulo 13 del Evangelio de Mateo. Hoy, escuchamos a Jesús decirnos la parábola del trigo y la cizaña. Jesús propuso otra parábola a las multitudes, di-ciendo: "El reino de los cielos puede ser semejante a un hombre que sembró buena semilla en su campo." Mien-tras todo el mundo estaba dormido su enemigo vino y sembró mala hierba por todo el trigo y luego se fue. Nadie tiene excu-sas en este momento. Se pidió a los feligreses que ayudaran con la campaña del TTWCI. Algunos feligreses han apoyado la campaña. ¡Un sincero agradecimiento! También yo he hecho una contribución. Sin embargo, muchos no lo han hecho. Usted apoya al equi-po o no?. Sentado en las bancas en el lado, no ayuda a nadie. Así que, seguimos adelante con nuestros planes lo mejor que podamos. W zeszłym tygodniu usłyszeliśmy przypowieść o siewcey. W tym tygodniu będziemy kontynuować przypowieści Pana Jezusa, w 13-ym rozdziale Ewangelii Sw. Mateusza. Dzisiaj słyszymy, jak Jezus mówi nam przypowieść o chwaście. Jezus zaproponował kolejną przypowiesc do tłumów, mówiąc: “Królestwo niebieskie podobne jest do człowieka, który posiał dobre nasienie na swojej roli. Lecz gdy ludzie spali, przyszedł jego nieprzyjaciel,nasiał chwastu między pszenicę i odszedł." Dzisziaj widzimy obraz namalowany przez Domenico Fetti o nazwie Przypowieść o Pszenicy i Kąkolu (1622).

W centrum obrazu widzimy jak diabeł sieje chwasty. Patrząc na tę osobę blizej, możemy rozpoznać go jako diabeł ponieważ ma rogi na głowie. Diabeł siewa chwasty, a rolnicy śpią. Widzicie coś dziwnego w tym

obrazie? Na obrazie Fettiego widać, że jest dzień. Słońce świeci jasno, ale wszyscy śpią. Zamiast być na jawie i świadomym, rolnicy głęboko śpią. W Ewangelii Św. Mateusza słyszymy Jezusa, mówiąc nam, że "Lecz gdy ludzie spali, przyszedł jego nieprzyjaciel." Co znaczą słowa Jezusa? Czy nie mamy spać? Św. Jan Chryzostom w swoim kazaniu na Ewangelię Św. Mateusza uczy "i jak to jest możliwe, aby nie spać? Można powiedzieć: Rzeczywiście do naturalnego snu to nie jest możliwe; ale o do naszej moralności to jest możliwe." Jezus wyzywa nas, abyśmy nie zasnęli moralnie. Kiedy zasniemy w naszym moralnym życiu, diabeł będzie siał błędy i grzechy w naszym życiu. Jednak dzisiaj większość ludzi śpią, jak rolnicy przypowieści i w obrazie Fettiego. Większość katolików i chrześcijan dzisiaj śpią moralnie. W Kościele jest wielu ludzi, kapłani, duchownych, i świeckich, którzy nie wierzą w jakąkolwiek moralność i nie uczą moralności: "Wszystko jest dobre i dopuszczalne. Nic nie jest złe lub grzeszne." Kiedy zasniemy w naszej moralności, diabeł posieje chwasty niegodziwości w naszym świecie.

W zeszłym tygodniu poinformowałem was, że klimatyzacja dla kościoła nie działa. W w naszej okolicy nastąpiło potężne nasilenie prądu i w związku z tym przypadku, nasza sprężarka spaliła. Dlatego klimatyzacyja do kościoła nie działa. Jedna osoba powiedziała do ks. LADIES OF THE ROSARY NEWS BEADS ... Monthly Mass The Ladies of the Rosary gather on the first Sunday of the month at the 7:30 a.m. Mass to attend Mass as a group. All ladies of the parish are invited to attend and celebrate with the group. 2017-2018 The Ladies of the Rosary meet from September through May. All women of the parish are welcome.
