**** FROM THE PASTOR ****

16TH Sunday in Ordinary Time

My brothers and sisters, last week we talked about the seed of Faith that was sown in each of us at Baptism.

Each of us received the good seed of Christ love. Today Jesus talks about the world we live in and how the

evil one sows evil seed around us. The weeds of sin can surround us at times and if we are not careful in

growing in our faith those weeds can choke the life out of our faith.

St. Paul tells us today that Jesus gives us the Holy Spirit to aid us in our weakness. Like a good farmer he

nourishes us in our faith to enable us to resist the evil in the world. As St. Paul tells us: “the Spirit himself

intercedes with inexpressible groanings . . . He intercedes for the holy ones according to God’s will”.

Like the mustard seed our Faith can grow from that tiny seed of Baptism into the fullness of discipleship. We

can live that Faith and share it with others if we work at our prayer life, our Sacramental life and our

discipleship. We can produce the fruit of faith thirty, or sixty or a hundred-fold. Let each of us be yeast in

the hands of the Lord that leavens our homes, our schools, our places of work and our neighborhoods with

the love of God.

We Need Volunteers for our Sunday Counters Teams!

We are still in need of volunteers for our Sunday Counting Teams. The Counters count the Sunday

Collection. If you are looking to volunteer in the parish but prefer a more behind the scenes service this might

be just right for you. We have four teams of Counters who rotate every four weeks. They are a wonderful

group of men and women who enjoy their service and each other’s company. As I mentioned last month we

have lost some of our long time dedicated counters. If you think this ministry might appeal to you talk to Fr.

Cinque or Fr. Ray and they can explain it to you. Thank you for thinking about joining this wonderful and

important ministry in our parish.

May God bless you,

Fr. Stephen Cinque

WORD OF LIFE

“When we consider that women are treated as property it is

degrading to women that we should treat children as property

to be disposed of as we see fit.”

Elizabeth Cady Stanton

“When a man steals to satisfy hunger, we may safely conclude

that there is something wrong in society. So when a woman

destroys the life of her unborn child, it is an evidence that either

by education or circumstances she has been greatly wronged.”

AROUND THE NEIGHBORHOOD

wheat flour until the whole batch was leavened,” Add leaven to

your marriage and rise to the level of God’s Kingdom on a

Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekend.. For more

information contact Janet and Mike Turco at 973-427-7016 or

previous test designed by CTB McGraw-Hill that the company

is not expected to continue offering. The COOP exam

measures scholastic aptitude in verbal and non-verbal abilities

in achievement in reading, language arts and mathematics..

PLANNED GIVING OPPORTUNITIES (BEQUESTS) -

Imagine a gift that gives forever. That’s exactly what a bequest

in your Will or making the parish the beneficiary of a life

insurance policy can do for our parish endowment. The plans

you make now will strengthen our parish family by providing

perpetual financial support year after year. Learn more by

contacting Theresa Lynch in the Archdiocese of Newark

Planned Giving Office at 973-497-4042.

CHURCH CHUCKLES

A Preacher ended his temperance sermon by saying, “The

world would be a better place if everyone poured their beer,

wine and whiskey into the river.” Then sat down. The song

leader stood and announced with a smile, “For our closing song,

let us sing Hymn 365: ‘Shall We Gather at the River.’”
