After seveal
months indoors,
our parks are
open once
again. If your
children are
anything like
mine, they are
just itching to
get outside and
have fun.
Unfortunately, not all kids are as excited
to explore the outdoors as my three boys
– and in those cases, parents may need
to do a little encouraging. But where
can those parents turn to get ideas for
outdoor activities? PBS KIDS for Parents,
of course!
PBS KIDS for Parents has developed a
really great website with TONS of ideas
to encourage outdoor exploration.
From printable adventure passports
and daily weather trackers to craft ideas
like planting a terrarium or growing an
herb garden, the site is packed with fun
nature ideas! On the site, you can also
find numerous articles for parents that
will help you get your child “unplugged”
and use nature to get children to think
like scientists. There are even lists of
books about topics like gardening,
camping, and national parks!
So if you need some ideas to help your
child start—or keep—exploring the
outdoors, visit the Explore the Outdoors
hub by visiting: https://www.pbs.org/
parents/page/explore-the-outdoors.
Plus, you can always turn to our website
and discover great outdoor activities
with Explore with Mr. Scott. But the most
important thing is to get out
and explore. wqpt.org/kids
