delivered to 30 people in and around our
community. Thank you to all who helped
prepare and deliver the meals. Providing
food for F.E.A.S.T. on Tuesday, July 9th are

Rogers, and Faye Williams. If you are able
and available to deliver meals, please be at
the church by 10:30 AM.

FROM OUR GUEST PASTOR
I am a Christian because of Johnston Chapel
United Methodist Church.
Now yes, I was raised by parents that taught
me the importance of faith. I had that faith
modeled for me in their faithfulness to
church. I had great preachers that shared with
me the Good News of Jesus Christ. These
things were all very important to the
development of my faith.
But, you are the reason why I am a Christian.
You showed me the path of Jesus. You
taught me Sunday School. You worked with
me at VBS. You took me on mission trips.
You prayed with me at the altar. You
supported me when I felt called to ministry. I
am where I am as a United Methodist pastor
because of you and Johnston Chapel.
This place is sacred to me. My family is
buried here. One day, I will be buried here.
This place is my heart. I am thankful beyond
words to be able to be able to share the Good
News of Jesus Christ with my people this
Sunday.
Many of you know the great hymn of the
faith, “It Is Well with My Soul.” This is a
hymn that speaks to many of us. This hymn
is one that has confronted us in years past. Its
words speak to our souls. But what some of
us may not realize is that this hymn was
written in a time of great pain by Horatio
Spafford. He suffered great loss through the
great fire of Chicago. He had sent his family
to London, but their ship sank, with his wife
alone surviving the accident. As he was
traveling to London to be by her side, as he
was sailing across the Atlantic, and when he
passed near the place where his children died,
he wrote these words:
When peace like a river, attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to say,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.
It is well, (it is well),
With my soul, (with my soul)
It is well, it is well, with my soul.
Can you imagine? Can you imagine losing
your family? Can you imagine passing the
place where your children died? Can you
imagine what that would be like?
Can you then imagine that kind of faith in
God that would allow you, in the midst of that
pain, to say that it is well, even when your
heart is broken and devastated? That is trust.
That is faith. That is hope in God.
God is good, all the time. And all the time,
God is good. I believe that. I know that. I
have seen that. I have seen that in the life of
this church. I have seen God work through
Johnston Chapel in times of joy and times of
pain. I have seen God’s goodness many,
many times through the life of this church.
I don’t know what God is going to do through
Johnston Chapel. I don’t know what the
future holds. I don’t know what God will do
here in the life of our church. But it will be
good. It will be for our good. And for His
glory.
I know that. I’ve seen that. I claim that.
And so should you.
I look forward to being with my family this
Sunday to share this Good News.

the Sisters in Christ ministry. Don’t forget to
contact your “sister” at least once a week through
a text message, call, or card. A personal visit
would be wonderful too. If anyone is interested in
being a part of the Sisters in Christ ministry,

USHERS AND GREETERS NEEDED
We need volunteers to be ushers and greeters for
the 11:00 worship service. Youth who are 7th
grade and up can volunteer to help as well. If you

The Monday Morning Bible Study Group will
take a break during the summer. They will
resume on Monday, September 9, 2019.
HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY
We gather around to celebrate
On Independence Day
Pay homage to our country
As the children run and play
With barbecues and picnics
And fireworks in the air
The flag we own is proudly flown
To show how much we care
The stars and stripes spell freedom

God gave democracy to us

I am so grateful for all the food, calls, texts,
and prayers that you gave to me during this
illness. God is so faithful and I continue to
cling to Him.
Prayers are appreciated as I continue to battle
this disease.

Dear Folks at Johnston Chapel,
Mom (Elouise Campbell) is going down. We as a
family have decided to put her under the care of
Hospice of Baton Rouge but still living at the
Assisted Living. Please put her on your prayer
list. Thank you. Her love is still in that church.

HOMECOMING
We are looking forward to Homecoming on
July 7th. The Worship Service will begin at
11:00 AM with Rev. Bill Poole as our guest
speaker. There will be no Early Service,
Sunday School, or Evening Activities. Lunch
will follow immediately after the Worship
Service in the Family Life Center. Everyone
is encouraged to bring their favorite dishes
and desserts.
We are looking forward to seeing Bro. Bill
and Carolyn again. We hope to see you
there!

FAMILY MINSTRY CORNER
June was awesome, exciting, and sad all at the same time. June 3-7 we had 5 children go to older elementary at Camp Wesley Pines. They had a great time. June 12th the Youth went on a surprise trip to Paradise Ranch where they went on a hike and then went swimming and ate lunch!!! June 17-21 we had 5 children who went to younger elementary camp at Camp Wesley Pines. June 16-21 the youth also went to Bayou LaBatre, Al. and painted the outside and inside of a house and inside the middle school. We also did yard work!!! We worked with the children at Kid’s Club!!! Our youth were amazing; they did their jobs and then helped others finish or clean up their sites. June 23rd was our church wide going away party for Greg and Helen. It was a lot of fun and sad at the same time. Thank you to the Richard’s for letting us use your beautiful yard. June 24-28 was VBS. On June 28 was Fun Friday for children – water day following VBS. The youth did an awesome job working during VBS!!!
JULY July 7 we will have a very important meeting about PROJECT SERVE right after Lunch at 1:15. Save these dates for July!!! July 12-14 Senior High Beach Camp Trip July 15-19 Jr. High Camp Wesley Pines July 17-19 PROJECT SERVE July 29-Aug 2 Surprise trip for youth and children!!!

WHAT IS THAT SONG? WHAT IS THAT SONG Until Bro. Greg's last Sunday with us, I had no clue what song I was going to share with you all this month. After listening to his sermon, hearing the announcement from the PPR committee, and then witnessing the reactions afterward, I knew what song I needed to share. We are all going through a difficult time right now and God is the only one on which we can depend. We are ultimately fighting a battle with Satan and the only way we can fight back is with God's help. We need to pray and meditate on His word instead of arguing, being upset with one another, and constantly wondering what's around the corner for us all as far as our church is concerned. God is in control. Let us not go crazy and worry over whatever is going to happen. I know it's easier said than done, but we can get through this. 'The apostles said to the Lord, "Increase our faith!"'
