SPEAKER FOR JULY 28Th MEETINGOur speaker for the July 28

meeting is Juliet Lozano, Public Information and Marketing Corporate Manager for the City of El Paso. Let’s have a good representation of our members.

President Elias is trying to put some variety into our monthly meetings to make them more interesting for our members. Having a business meeting every month for one hour gets pretty boring.

LOGO PATCHES AND “INC” DESIGNATIONNotice a different logo at the heading of

this month’s newsletter? The reason for the new logo is that the logo used by National, and which we have been using, is restricted by several copyrights and other registrations, so the Board of Directors decided that we should come up with our own logo.

Also on the heading of this newsletter we have added the word “INC” to our national identification. This designation is required because we are incorporated as a non-profit corporation.

Just a little explanation for the difference from previous newsletters.

REMINDERFor those of you not in the loop, last

month’s meeting was held at VFW 812 in McKelligon Canyon. This will be our regular meeting place until further notice. Also, the meeting date has been changed to the fourth Saturday of the month from 11:30 to 1:30. The AVVA will continue to serve their delicious lunches.

Not familiar with McKelligon Canyon? At the red light at the Alabama St. entrance to Beaumont Hospital, turn towards the mountain. At the STOP sign, take the right-hand route and follow it until you reach the building. You cannot go any farther.

MAY WE SEND YOUR NEWSLETTER BY EMAIL?

The cost of mailing the Newsletter to those of you who don’t have computers or who do, but prefer it to be mailed by slow mail, has gone up. The cost of toner, paper,

envelopes, and postage has risen like everything else. It

Page Twowould be nice if those of you receiving this Newsletter by slow mail have a close family member, or friend, with a computer and they can receive it by email, print it, and hand it to you. Or, you can just read it on their computer. Either way works. Just let me know the email address. Thanks.

PROBLEMS WITH SPELL-CHECK?An Airforce Officer tells this story of

problems with spell-check. He recently sent a message to 300 of his personnel, addressed to “Dear Sirs and Ma’ams.” It was received as “Dear Sirs and Mamas.”

GUARD YOUR TONGUEOne of Billy Graham’s Six Rules of

LivingUse it for good instead of evil. How

many marriages and friendships have been destroyed because of criticism that has spun out of control? But the tongue can also be used for good; that should be our goal.

When people ask me for advice about their personal problems, which they often do, I always try to give them an answer based on the Bible. “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their need.”

PRESIDENT’S LETTERJuly 2018

Brothers and sisters, the engine has been started, we have shifted gears, and we are now moving with a tremendous roar. We are focused on our future and excitement and

enthusiasm fills the air as we gain momentum. All I can say is clear the way, we are coming!

If you were in our last meeting in June you might have noticed a lot of faces we haven’t seen in some time. We also saw a lot of new faces. As a matter of fact, we signed up three new members. One of them a transfer form 574.We have over 20 brothers, involved in nine working committees, working for you to make things better and more enjoyable for all.

Everything from a Uniform Review Committee (Al Dozal), to our Website and Social Media Committee (Roy Jones) and our upcoming golf tournament (Sonny Ojeda). And we can’t forget the wonderful helpers from AVVA who are not included in the numbers but who are always there to help.

A well disserving salute to our new members who had barely signed their name on the dotted line when they rolled up their sleeves and went to work by joining a committee. I’m talking of Jesús Domínquez and Raúl Vargas.

Can’t say enough of Mike Grijalva (AKA Charlie Golf 6) and the many hours and tirelessly effort he put into the Chihuahua baseball game for us. We had a good time, we had over 50 of us with our families to make a good showing and represent our Chapter. There was a little trouble with the tickets, but outside of that it went great. WELL DONE MIKE!

What’s next Mike? I can’t help but feel so proud seeing our membership socializing together having fun, just like the old R&R times. Our 4th of July parade, as always, was well attended, although it seems every year we have less and less members that can walk it. But that’s okay, we will continue marching with as many as we can and we will never give up.

Also our picnic was well attended, plenty of food and drink, we had a great time. Thanks to the Quiett family Ron, Bo, Monica and Josh Shoemaker for slaving away on the grills. And, of course, Virgie and Moe, you outdid yourself just like you do every year. Ray Fierro and

Suki did an outstanding job with the raffle, the numbers

are not in yet, but I’m sure we made some good money. Raul Vargas also did a great job with the Huacha tournament. Al Dozal and David Luna beat everyone and Frank Loya and I came in 2nd, but I’m sure it was only because they cheated (LOL).

We are in a new location with plenty of sitting space (we almost filled it up last time) and parking. Also, Moose (who is also an 844 member) and Danielle the bar tender were wonderful hosts.

Again, I invite those who have not been around for a while to drop by. Our meeting location, time and day may have changed, but not our desire to have you join us.

May life bring you clear skies, smooth seas, and favorable winds.

Elias A Camacho, President

CHAIR OF HONORI do lot of reading and recently read

about an organization by the name of Rolling Thunder, who like us raises awareness of prisoners of war and those missing in action. It’s president happened to attend a NASCAR race and noticed that there was a seat left purposely empty. In it was a sign that said,

“This empty chair is reserved for our 82,000 American servicemen who are still missing. This chair serves as a reminder of all the sacrifices made for our country by these American servicemen, who have for too long been forgotten by all but their families and friends.”

I brought it up at our last Board of Directors meeting and we thought it would be a good custom for our Chapter to do something similar.

Page ThreeCHAPLAIN’S CORNER

Greetings in the name of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost. The topic of this segment of the "Chaplain's Corner" is:

"Why He Is So Special"No matter how good any originators of world religions may have been, they cannot in any way compare within the founder of Christianity. The major reason is simply this: They are all in the category of "good men" while Jesus is in a category by Himself - the God-Man. Jesus alone is Immanuel (God with us); Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:23), The Living Word ( John 1:1-2 & 14), The Savior ( Luke 2:11: John 1:29) and The Messiah (John 1:41)

Only Jesus could truthfully assert His equality with His Heavenly Father, "I and my Father are one," He said. (John 10:30)

Only Jesus' Words are divine. His life is the only perfect one. Only Jesus' death and resurrection provide life everlasting. Jesus is unique in all the world. He alone is worthy of our worship, adoration, and awe. He alone is the perfect Man-God.

The Divine one. The provider of salvation. Do not settle for anything or anyone less. (Mathew 11:28-30).

RECRUITING

One final thought. As President Elias has said, we need to go out and recruit. One of the best ways to do this is to wear your Vietnam Veterans cap whenever you go out, and to stop a person wearing a Vietnam Veterans cap and WELCOME THEM HOME! The next thing is to

ask them if they belong to a Vietnam Veterans Chapter. If they say they don’t belong to any Chapter, invite them to ours. Believe it or not, there are Vietnam Veterans in El Paso who don’t know that we exist.

A few months ago, my wife and I went to an event at the Sun Bowl and I wore my cap. As we were leaving, a fellow with a Vietnam Cap stopped me and invited me to a meeting because, as he explained, there are no Vietnam Veterans organizations in El Paso and he and others were trying to form one. I gave him my card and told him that we had a very active organization and invited him to come and visit us. He was surprised. Unfortunately, he has never shown up as far as I know.

A good tool is the business card. If you let me know, I will print some 20 business cards for you so you have something to hand out. When you use them up, I will print you some more. We have had several new members join, and are already busy in the Chapter as Committee Chairs and members. When they first visit out Chapter, they have seen and felt the camaraderie that we have in Chapter 844, and want to become members.

COMMITTEE CHAIRSI have a very special favor to ask of you.

Please prepare a written report for our meetings and give me a copy of it. Sometimes we get too many things going on at once and I think I will remember some details for our Minutes and then I find myself making phone

calls or sending emails to the persons who gave the reports. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

MAN VS. WOMANMen and women sometimes see things

differently when they write something. To illustrate this, a college professor wrote the

following on the blackboard and asked his students to put in the punctuation. “Woman without her man is nothing.” He then instructed the students to put in the proper punctuation.

The men wrote, “Woman, without her man, is nothing.”

The women wrote, “Woman! Without her, man is nothing.”

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

COLOR GUARDBig thank you to the Color Guard. They

have represented the Chapter very professionally. On May 23rd, they presented the Colors and the POW/MIA Table Ceremony at the Veterans Breakfast at El Paso Community College. Miguel Rios sang the National Anthem and a trio of very professional trumpet players played Taps. On May 28th, the Color Guard presented the Colors and POW/MIA Table

Ceremony at the local Vietnam Memorial Wall. And, on June 19th, the Color Guard again presented the Colors and the POW/MIA Table Ceremony at the noon meeting of the Rotary Club at Applebee’s. Thank you Elias Camacho, David Luna, Joel Garcia, Jesus Dominguez, Mike Grijalva, Doug Davis, Joe Ortiz and Moe and Virgie Molina. We received kudos from everyone.
