Well with a new year and camping well underway for the summer of 2017 we are in the time of the year for annual meetings. Not long ago I ask in one of my articles as to where you see your chapter in the future. I would like to share as to where I see us as a Region in the future. Some of the changes that I would like to see us make. I would like to see all Field staff doing a written report each month. I also would like to see all Staff do- ing a written report each month as well. Some would say this is wishful thinking would you not? Well guess what If we take a look at the job description we will find that it is part of the job of the field staff. Oh, not to point fingers here as I am just as guilty as you in falling short of keeping up on reports. So let’s all get better at keeping on top of this in the year to come. As a Region we are in the early stages of getting ready to host the 2019 Campvention. We will be needing every volunteer that we can find to hold a Campvention position. If you have a talent and can fill one of the positions YOU ARE NEEDED. At this time, we are awaiting the Trustee deci- sion as to the Location. One location is in Kansas and one is in South Dakota. I do know location will determine the possible volunteers for Campvention positions. With all of this we need to keep up the recruitment work. We must keep adding to our numbers on a regular basis. Over the years our numbers are on the decline and for us to grow we must add 2 families for each one we lose to keep the origination afloat. I would like to see that each State Director have a full staff. I believe that each State director have a Assistant State Director that could and be able to step in and fill the position if some- thing would happen to the State Director. We have many program the are needed and an impor- tant part of FCRV. This would be the single most helpful this a State Director could do for (cont. page 2)

REGIONAL RAMBLINGS

FROM THE

HEARTLAND BY Gerry Pfirsch

Good day to each of you in the FCRV Family! I also would like to see all Staff do-ing a written report each month as well.

At this time, we are awaiting the Trustee deci-sion as to the Location.

I believe that each State director have a Assistant State Director that could and be able to step in and fill the position if some-thing would happen to the State Director. We have many program the are needed and an impor-tant part of FCRV. This would be the single most helpful this a State Director could do for

themselves. If they filled their staff on the state level they would lighten their work load and have a better functioning State. So, let me ask why are you not volunteering to help your State Director? Over the coming year, we will need to look at our Field Staff. Add to staff as needed. AS a Field Director are you camping with your chapter? Does your Chapter know who you are? As a Field Director is there a point that I should step aside and train a new person to take over? Is there a position on the State level that I should fill and do more for the FCRV Family? Am I doing everything that I can for my Chapter? As members, it is up to us, that is you and me, to see that FCRV survives for the next generation to enjoy. If we are not willing to tell a friend, a neighbor, the person down the street the great thing that we call Family Campers and RV’ers then I will say it is doomed to fail. Let’s all pitch in and see that it is to succeed keep-ing it alive for another generation. Train the next generation of field staff and expand FCRV. Support the Regional Campvention each year. How many of you are going to the Regional Campvention in North Dakota? There is still time to register. Hope to see you there. North and South have worked hard to put this together and I know that It will be a fun time. I will see you there. Who is going to Campvention in Ohio? Will I see you there?

The Chaplain’s Word

Page 4

This past week has been a bummer for me. A virus has taken over my life and is trying to make it as miserable as it can. On the up side, I know (or at least hope) that by this time next week my body’s defenses will have taken over and got rid of this tiny menace. The human body is indeed a marvelous machine capable of so many things and under control of one major organ-the brain.

The brain controls how we move, how we react to various stimuli, how we digest the food we eat, the movement of blood throughout the body, and so many other things. The most unique property of the brain is that it gives us the ability of thought. I think that most will agree that how the brain of an individual is pro-grammed depends upon the living conditions that he or she is born into. An indi-vidual born into poverty will usually think differently than one born into wealth. This is one of the major reasons we have so much unrest in the world today.

However, it really doesn’t matter what conditions an individual is born into, many of the conflicts they have with the world will cease if they only have hope for to-morrow. Hope that can only be found in the promises made by our creator and His only son Jesus Christ. Blessed be the God and father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who

according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and

will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you 1st Peter 1: 3-4

As believers and followers of Christ we need to pass on the hope that we have been given by our Lord and savior whenever we can.

STATE CAMP OUT AT CRYSTAL LAKE June 2-4, 2017

FCRV'ers are undaunted. Upon arrival at Crystal Lake, a couple of camp families found the mud as they attempted to park. Seems rain will cause that problem.

With more rain predicted and to prevent future issues for the campers yet to arrive, it was decided to cancel the camp out but try to have the Saturday activities for those who would like to just drive in for the day. But as said above, FCRV'ers are undaunted. Seven families came in their campers anyway!! We had six families drive in. Over the week end, 24 people camped or visited.

Friday evening, card bingo was played and the Heartland Runabouts provided hospitality before the mosquitoes sent everyone to their campers.

Saturday activities included the flag raising, a hike by the Hoagland's, a conservation craft ( bird feeders), and carnival games. The Republican Valley Sod Busters furnished a hot dog lunch with all the trimmings. In the afternoon an ice cream social was enjoyed with proceeds going to the Scholarship Fund.

A potluck supper with more wonderful food was followed by the evening program.

A memorial service was held for remembering friends and family we have lost in the past year. It was also a time to remember David Kruger, a member of the Heartland Runabouts, who passed away in March. Many FCRV'ers attended his memorial service in Hastings on Friday morning. The "open mike" time found many humorous stories told by members who experienced them. Some a little embarrassing! Bob and Vesta Dorn entertained us with music on their gui-tars. Thanks for sharing Bob and Vesta.

Hospitality and mosquitoes followed.

Sunday morning hospitality by the Fun Finders was followed by church service with Charley Gies.

The Republican Valley Sod Busters donated $20.00 from their hot dog lunch to the Scholar-ship fund, also donated was the profit of $10.00 from the activity fee for the weekend.

Thanks to all the brave campers who *stuck* it out.

Thanks also to Mother Nature for not bringing the predicted rain.

Junebug 2017, June 23-25 Anyone who missed coming to Junebug this year missed out on a good time, good camping weather, and good fellowship. We had 14 units attending and 46 people Including drive-ins.

Junebug was held at Windmill SRA near Gibbon, NE. The weather was cool and no rain for the entire weekend.

Junebug was hosted by the Heartland Runabouts. Sandy and Ken Kendall were in charge of the planning, scheduling, the Runabout crew pitched in help make things happen.

2017 Junebug theme was “The Beverly Hillbillies” For supper we had, spaghetti, tossed salad, bread sticks and “Sweet Potato Pie” on Saturday night.

We played a card bingo game. It is always fun to be able to yell “Bingo”, but alas, not everyone can be a winner. It is fun playing with playing cards instead of bingo cards and beans.

Pastor Renee from Hastings explained to the group about the Hearts & Hands Against Hunger program which is based in Hastings and sends food throughout the world. The proceeds of the days food and crafts auction will be donated to that organization.

An auction was held to sell the baked goods, food, crafts, and some mystery packages. There was a large amount of items to sell. The auction was lively and fun.

The young, and young at heart participated in the Junebug annual water gun fight. This event has become a favorite Junebug activity of all of the youth and those who enjoy the action of a good water gun fight.

A hillbillies look-alike contest was held with contestants dressing as their favorite “Beverly Hillbilly” Character. There was also a talent portion. It was a lot of fun and thanks to everyone who participated in the event and helped make the Hillbilly activity a fun time.

Breakfast Sunday morning was a breakfast sandwich consisting of , English muffin eggs, cheese, and Canadian Bacon. Coffee and juice for drinks.

A church service was held a 10:00 on Sunday morning. It was conducted by our Chaplin, Mert Feikert. Mert’s message was meaningful and was a fitting way to end a weekend of fun and fellowship.

Caramel Puff Corn Ingredients:

Directions 1. Preheat oven to 250°F. Spray a large roaster with cooking spray. Pour puff corn into the

roaster. 2. Melt butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add brown sugar and corn syrup and

mix well. Bring mixture to a boil, stirring constantly, and cook for additional 2 minutes. 3. Remove from heat and stir in baking soda and vanilla extract; the mixture will foam and

expand. Carefully pour syrup over puff corn and toss to mix. 4. Bake for 45 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes. Pour onto waxed paper or foil that has

been sprayed with cooking spray. Let Caramel Puff Corn cool at least 30 minutes. Break into bite size pieces and store in closed container.

Chapter Meeting Reports

The Rollin' Turtles Camping Club held their June meeting at Rock Creek Station State Recrea-tion Area June 15-18. Twenty-six members and one guest attended. the weather was pleasant Thursday and much of Friday. As usual, the Turtles went out to dinner Friday evening, this time to the Fillmore County Country Club. We were most pleased with the quality of the food and the promptness of the service. Friday night the weather turned ugly, with a toad-strangler downpour, hailstones, and strong winds that took down many branches. About 10 pm the power went out in several counties, and did not come back on until 3 am. Fortunately, none of us suffered any damage. Saturday evening the club enjoyed a "walking taco" feast before our business meeting.

Triple F camped at Lake Icaria near Corning, Iowa in June. Friday was the night of the big storms, so several of our group ended up taking shelter in town. Luckily, none of the campers were damaged by the winds. Sunday when we returned home, some of our group discovered tree damage at their houses, and in some cases the electricity was still off. Not what you want to find after a weekend of camping.

After this rough start, the rest of the weekend was beautiful. Rob & Bill had brought their fishing boats along, so the guys went out fishing while the ladies relaxed back at camp. That night there was a fish-fry, although the fish were brought from home, not caught in the lake. Everyone ended up having a good time.
