Update

This month’s report completes a year where we have seen significant changes to the open access publishing landscape with the implementation of HEFCE’s new open access policy for journal articles and conference papers which may be considered for the next Research Excellence Framework. From the 1st August 2015 to the 28th July 2016 we have had a total of 1066 outputs deposited into the repository. These were deposited fairly evenly across the year. We are hopeful that this indicates that colleagues are becoming more aware of the new open access requirements for the REF and the need to deposit accepted manuscripts at the point of acceptance. We have also processed 25 article processing charges making research outputs resulting from RCUK funded research open access at point of publication (the gold open access route). The money for this comes from funding made available through the RCUK block grant to the University of Salford. Research and Enterprise also provide funding for the payment of article processing charges for non-RCUK funded research and this has also been used this year to make another 48 outputs open access via the gold open access route.
