AES COM&IN Room Setting

It all started during the Store's Master Plan meeting. Athens East store is located close to areas where Athenians have summer houses. We needed to somehow bring this to the store! This was the trigger for our Initial IDEA:

“THE INDOOR OUTDOOR ROOM” A Room setting that combined “Indoor & Outdoor” living and could be used not only during the summer months but through out the whole year.

We started building on the this idea trying to bring it closer to what our range could offer. We were careful not to compromise on innovation securing the outstanding and unexpected standards that COM&IN room settings should promote. That is when we shifted our idea a bit and moved towards a slightly different approach from "The INDOOR OUTDOOR Room”…

#therelaxingroom Picture yourself there ! A friendly couple invites you to their summer house somewhere in the Attica coast line. It is an old construction that they have recently renovated. They both love Retro style , collect antiques and vintage objects like old phones ,radios and books. The same Retro - antique feeling applies also in their summer home so many of the original architectural elements of the building were retouched but sustained. The concreted “Worn-out” walls , the “Patchwork” of old floor tiles and the “Ceiling high” wooden window frames compliments their passion for Retro interiors. The main activity of this room is Relaxing: • Reading a good book. • Listening to your favorite music. • Surfing on the net for more antiques. • Enjoying a glass of wine alone or with friends. • Connecting with nature while looking outside the windows. • Having an afternoon “power nap” on the comfortable sofa. • Enjoying each other by being together in solitude. • Or just doing nothing …

Doesn’t that sound nice? So step in and enjoy the VIEW!!!

#therelaxingroom The 10 step process was followed. After planning was finalized we visualized the room setting in “Sketch-Up”. This way the commercial team would be able to better understand the feeling that the medium would have. The final presentation took place in an executive meeting and it was very successful. We all came to an agreement that the room setting was outstanding, unexpected and according to the high quality standards that we aim for. Living situation : Living together / LTP:OYL

#therelaxingroom The visualized room setting. The concreted “Worn-out” walls , and the “Patchwork” of old floor tiles supports the Retro feeling of the construction.

#therelaxingroom The visualized room setting. The “Ceiling high” wooden window frames, going up to 3,40m give the impression of extra height to the room setting.

#therelaxingroom The visualized room setting. The unexpected Lay-out creates “rooms in a room” areas . This way the couple can either socialize with their friends or enjoy solitude while being together.

#therelaxingroom The visualized room setting. We decided to make the room even more “theatrical” by placing transparent textiles and a small air fan. The wind makes the textiles move, and “imitates” the breeze coming in the room from the open windows. Finally we created a communication encouraging our visitors to check-in the room setting through their Social Media and upload a “selfie“.

#therelaxingroom During the implementation IDs, VMs, GDs, Carpenters, Sales and Maintenance were involved. Everyone gave their best , the whole procedure ran smoothly and was very enjoyable. The outcome is an outstanding room setting different from its surroundings that creates interest and attacks the visitors attention. In the following slides you see pictures from the implementation days and the finalized room setting.

#therelaxingroom After implementation we tried to create a little “buzz” in the Social Media. We posted “teasers” and team pictures checked-in the IKEA Athens International Airport store and “dashed” #therelaxingroom.

#therelaxingroom “What is behind the moving textiles?” Our visitors are curious so they step in to discover it. The first reactions is that they find the room different and impressive . A complete evaluation on quantitive and qualitive goals will be conducted by the end of September.
